Group 18 WORK BENCH

AGENDA | Workbench is the second phase of LUNA which is ‘to create’; we want to extend creative discourse within the community by creating a space where ideas are shared freely. Working mainly from Luna’s community studio in Hulme, students are being asked to design and construct a single or multiple workstations which can be used within the studio, as well as being able to serve as an outdoor community exhibition platform. // Download Poster

Hope everyone had a buoyant weekend.

A quick reminder about tomorrow’s presentation with our collaborator, Simi from Luna will start at 10:00 am but we need all Benchworkers to be in at 9:30 am. Bring also the physical models!

DAY 3

The group of students developed their initial concept ideas for a foldable work space further. Sketch models were essential in order to examine their ideas.

Group "Stacked" developed a work bench with rods that can be placed in different places to create work spaces of different heights as well as exhibition areas for the artists.

Great work from the team! As a further step they will examine the connection and the stability of the work bench!

Hi guys, I'm Pranav Radhakrishnan, doing my 5th year in MSA. I'm currently in CPU atelier. I did my undergrad in India and worked there for a year after my course. I have worked in about 5 architectural firms with projects ranging from small scale villas and interior designs to large scale projects.

What I like the most about architecture is bringing the most imaginative designs come to life by making it practical and feasible. Through my years of practice I have seen how as architects we create and execute. Apart from architecture well I like to travel and as lame as it may sound, watch a lot of movies.

Hoping to have a great time with you guys! And also to see the great stuff you are going to create!

Hi everyone! Name's Muhammad Faris; call me Faris. I am a 5th Year Architecture Student in the Atelier MSAP.

I studied my undergraduate here in the Manchester School of Art between 2013-2016. I worked in an architectural firm back in Malaysia for a year before coming back here to continue my Masters degree.

In terms of my interest, conceptual drawings are my favorite past time but I also enjoy anything that has any fantasy connotation to it. I rarely made physical models but I have started to enjoy making them in the past few months.

I am looking forward to get to know everyone soon!

Hi, I am Thomi Steliou, 5th year student in USE atelier.

I had my Bachelor degree at Manchester School of Architecture. For my year out, I worked for Forum Architects in Cyprus, on a confidential project in Saudi Arabia. I am really interested in the spatial experience in architecture and study the psychological and emotional behaviour of objects and spaces.

Therefore, our event project offers a connection between the user and the object and I am over-excited to start examining different possibilities for our output. Our work bench proposal should be a combination between studies of ergonomics, as well as, an inspirational unit for the user (artists).

PS. I love model making!!
