The is the other side of the finished room. The lighting that we chose allows for a softer light when the main fluorescent lights are off.

Painting the bench, Tadiwa and Billal has done a brilliant
Posted 10 May 2017 12:10
This is the finished room. We used the dark grey as an accent colour for the doors and the pipes. The light grey was used for the display wall, where the display boards where replaced by a series of cork boards, and for the wooden panelling around the room. The white paint was used for the remaining walls. The benches were placed under the projector but are movable making the space flexible for a variation of uses.

Some shots of the painting team. Several coasts were needed to disguise the old yellow colour from the walls but the finished job looks really good.

Room is Done !!! Karina, Amelia and Thomas quite happy with the result.

After building the benches, we decided to paint them with a Dark Oak Woodstain.
Posted 10 May 2017 12:03
Next to prepare the room for the first stage of refurbishment through painting the walls and doors, we masking taped sections of the room. We chose to paint the room in a series of three colours; a white, light grey and dark grey.
Posted 10 May 2017 12:01
Colour samples for the Church! We went with a neutral grey and white colour scheme, so that the new paint job didn't clash with the green floor. We chose a white and light grey for the walls to make the room seem lighter, and accented this with a dark grey to pick out the doors and other key features.
Posted 10 May 2017 11:55
This is the room before we started to paint the walls. We first prepped the room by removing the existing display boards, the projector and fairy lights that were placed around the room. We then covered the floor with sheets to protect the flooring.

Task: benches
Posted 10 May 2017 11:45
The final design scheme focused on a once again using the blackboard paint and also a table that could fold up to form a picture frame. This table unfortunately had to be omitted, as we wouldn't have time to construct it.
Posted 10 May 2017 11:35
Group 2 came up with the cork-board display walls in combination with blackboard parts. The students presented more design solutions that would be explored by the church in a later stage. Amazing work- thank you, guys!

Group 1: Great ideas, wood and brownish colours as inspiration. The lightning installation is an easy and smart solution to the lightning problems occurring in the room.

Yesterday the students presented to our client, Gareth, at St Phillip's Church. The presentations went very well and Gareth was impressed with all of the proposed ideas. We have decided to combine elements from all three groups. These consist of: painting and lighting, a display wall and seating.
Posted 24 Mar 2017 12:31
We started the day by splitting the students into three groups in order to develop concepts for the rehabilitation of the multipurpose room, which were later communicated through informal crits. The students had some great ideas, which will further developed during the third day, so we could be prepared to present them to Gareth on Thursday.

This photograph shows Gareth telling us about the display boards that are on the walls of the room which are used by the community groups. The design of the room will need to incorporate a way of displaying the groups work and information in a more efficient way.

St Philips Church Visits_Meeting with Gareth #1 13.12.2017
We discussed the potential rehabilitation of a space within the church that accommodates church meetings, art meetings and mother-children groups. Gareth explained what is needed in the space and we managed to discuss the funding for the renovation. Hence, all of our design decisions will be based on cost estimating to bring understanding of construction budgeting.
We are excited for what is coming next!
