Hey, I’m Titi, I am from South London but I am of Nigerian descent. I did my undergraduate at the University of Nottingham and then took my year out working with Hawkins\Brown in London.

I am currently in the InfraSpace atelier and architecturally I am interested in sustainability, community-driven design and technology. In terms of software, I am most skilled in Indesign, Photoshop, Rhino, Sketchup and Illustrator. I also like model-making and did quite a bit during my undergraduate.

Hey! My name is Ladi Timothy Shobowale. I’m from London, but I am of Nigerian descent. Heya, my name is Dunni Adebiyi. I am from and live in Lagos Nigeria, and moved to the UK to study in 2014, carrying out my undergrad at the University of Bath. I am currently in &rchitecture, and am thoroughly enjoying my experience at MSA.
I have a great interest in art, residential architecture,policies, and interior design, and have worked in few practices in Lagos and London. We are collaborating with Amos Simbo representative and also founder of BPIC Network. As well as establishing BPIC Network, Amos is also a Chartered Engineer and the founder of Winway Consultants.

BPIC (Black Professionals in Construction) Network is an organisation focused on uplifting and advancing black and ethnic minority professionals. Since officially being launched in September 2019 they have organised guidance, training and networking events specifically aimed at those in the industry as well as youth looking to join.

Through this events project we hope to help this network with informing and connecting aspiring students looking for a career in the built environment in a bold and engaging way. Some of the main aims of BPIC Network include:

-To empower and educate black and ethnic minority individuals
-To champion the importance of diversity
-To improve diversity in the construction and built environment
-To deliver solutions for participants that work in all areas of the industry

This will be an entirely online experience so we will try our very best to break up the excessive screen time. However, as you will be working with March students with a wealth of experience in software this is a great opportunity to pick our brains and those of the equally talented MLA Students to improve your skills!

We will be using the Adobe Creative Suite with an opportunity to learn video editing software including Adobe After Effects and Premier Pro. If you do not have access to these we will help set you up using the University provider Bentley. Additionally, you will be networking with architects, delivering a workshop and conducting research.

Don’t worry, we will be doing all of the above with you and in small teams so rest assured, we’re in this together.

We are also partnering with a newly founded enterprise Resilient Works who help deepen the understanding of individuals and organisations in relation to climate science, the human effect and what actions can be taken to reduce our carbon footprint thus helping to achieve climate and social justice. We will be working alongside the director, Sam Turner, who provides carbon literacy training and an insight into carbon consultancy on low-impact ethical design.
As real experts in the field, this is a fantastic opportunity to educate yourself more about the impact of our daily lives and how we can empower each other, as students, to make a positive change. Too often we belittle our student status by not taking ownership of the world around us and by not demanding answers from our educators, food suppliers. The pandemic has changed this.

The Anthropocene Architecture School (AAS) was set up in 2019 by Scott McAulay, in recognition of architecture’s responsibilities within the climate crisis (McAulay, 2020). The AAS aims to catalyse proactive emergency responses and prepare students for practice in the context of climate failure. Since its launch in 2019, the AAS has engaged more than 1,500 people internationally and held more than 25 workshops for architectural practices, sustainable design studios, students, educators, and the public (McAulay, 2020). Even though the UN Climate Change’s 2018 Special Report was not enough to persuade schools of architecture, the RIBA, and the ARB into taking action, Scott hopes that the AAS can empower institutions to weave sustainability through every aspect of their curriculum (McAulay, 2020)

Hi! My name is Jakub (Jakey) and I am a returning student at the MSA after failing to complete my part 1 year out. Due to the pandemic I decided to dive straight into the deep end and do my masters course which I really enjoy. At present, I am studying in the CPU Ai atelier and I recommend it for people to try, as working in teams really gives you the taste for what is it like in practice (even though I have not done my year out). In my spare time I work on my dissertation which focuses on nuclear entombment and I enjoy cooking. So, join us for this MSA Live and learn how to design sustainably.

SKILLS

The project will give us an opportunity to design a new park keeper's house in Whitworth Park together. We will communicate with each other about spatial programming, model-making and detailing through AutoCAD, SketchUp, Indesign and Photoshop. We will also gain more cooperation experiences with people from different backgrounds.

By redefining the idea of a park, new understandings and methods are considered which can promote a different approach of firstly viewing a park and then how does it enhance the user experience and relationship on an individual level.

Is it possible to invoke memories of the past through the park? The existence of culture, can this be emoted through a park? Are parks limited to just a few benches and open green spaces?

How do parks preserve and invoke the identity of a place and portray this to perhaps teach, experience, and feel in an age where parks are generalised.

LEAF (Landscape Environment Advancement Foundation) is an organization intended to undertake and further research in areas of Plant Material, Landscape Design, and Environmental Sustainability.

PRACTICE IDEOLOGY

The work that LEAF undertakes is designed to inform the design profession, and its fields of interest in a real, impactful manner.
This is done not only through the final outcomes, but also through the process, methods of data collection, documentation, and data representation.

The foundation has expanded the areas within which it undertakes work - looking at ideas of urban development and management, the design and refurbishment of public spaces, undertaking studies in governance and administration at the level of the country, and even creating models to integrate art into the fabric of the city.

Outside of the independent research projects, and impact projects that LEAF undertakes, it also functions as a facilitator for collaborative projects, adapting itself continuously to the many roles it chooses to perform.

Through this project, we will be creating the project as design participants. Focusing on the keeper's house, we will discuss the project's positive impact on the planning and the park environment with our collaborator. During the programming process, we will consider the interaction of the project with the neighbourhood and the city. A certain level of sustainability will also be a key concern for the collaborator and us.

SKILLS:
This MSA Live project will pull back the curtain and offer insight on the construction industry. BA and MLA students will work alongside the MArch students in a collaborative effort to redesign construction site accommodation. Despite being online we are offering plenty of opportunities to get stuck in and to learn with hands on work. There will be technical software workshops which will be used to improve and expand on existing presentation and design skills. There will be opportunities for students to engage and communicate with construction professionals, gaining an insight into the work and conditions of on site work. Additionally, throughout the two weeks, the project will be actively supported by the project collaborator, Rob Toon from ‘This is Change’. The aim of the project is to develop an exciting design proposal supported by coherent research and visual outputs, created over the 2 week period, resulting in a scheme which will benefit students but also make a lasting difference within the construction industry. We appreciate that some tasks and the thought of communicating with construction professionals may seem daunting, however, as a group we have a wealth of experience in industry and will help guide you through your first steps into understanding and being a part of the wider construction industry!

Our proposal for the Manchester Blue Line will act as a central spine that connects, supports and enhances the 3 districts of Salford, Trafford and Manchester City centre.

We will be taking a contextualised approach through studying the several distinct areas that border the river and defining their social and programmatic needs in order to serve and enhance the lives of the community.

To deliver the proposal we will be exploring several key social design drivers including the importance of pedestrianised space, cycle paths, accessibility, landscaping and most importantly providing flexible yet purposeful public space. Through this exploration our proposal will serve to facilitate meaningful and productive interactions.

Connected Community will provide an insight into the world of an architecture practice. Dealing with RIBA stages 1 and 2, we will be looking at how to translate the consultation process into architectural solutions. Dealing with the early stages of design, we will be working closely with our collaborator and client, developing client meeting and presentation skills. The project will be running similar to an architectural competition, providing further experience of in-practice scenarios.

As we are focussing on the early design stages the key skills which will be developed are sketching, digital modelling (Sketchup), Photoshop and Indesign. These skills will be used to produce impactful images for presentations to the client and a design feasibility booklet.

Currently a 5th year in the Complexity, Planning & Urbanism (CPU) atelier, I am interested in the design and management of future cities through theoretical approaches and computational tools. Connected Community is working with GM Savers to provide a community centre for Hopton Hopefuls, the residents of Hopton Court. Hopton Hopefuls will be engaged throughout the design process, reflecting the community-focused ethos of the project.

Hopton Court is a social housing block. The design will be sympathetic to the aging population, ensuring it is fully accessible to those with age-related mobility issues.

Community cohesion is key to the project, with the community centre acting as a driver for social interaction. The space will be for residents to meet, host social activities and attend to care needs; the space will be key to improving the resident’s physical and mental health. Overall, the project aims to improve the general social wellbeing of the residents.

Hi, I’m Yasamin and I am currently a part of the CPU Ai atelier. My interests lie within the development of social and urban infrastructures. I am particularly interested in how we can use design to create more ‘healthy’ and adaptable spaces as new technologies continue to evolve. Building Bridges Pendle are registered Charity and in 2019 they celebrated their twentieth anniversary. The charity contributes to community relation and community cohesion meanwhile raising awareness about people with different backgrounds and cultures. Their aim is to help people, create new friendships that cross-cultural boundaries.
Our first Collaborator is Rauf Bashir who is the project manager of Building Bridges Pendle. He will be acting as our main contact on behalf of the charity along with Shabaz Ahmed and Katie Nolan who are the community developer officers. Since 1942, the organisation has championed Bradford’s heritage and built environment, with the mission to inspire Bradfordians to love where they live. Skills // Inspire Bradford will predominantly look at master-planning solutions to the Little Germany area of Bradford city centre. Within this project our team will develop skills in building reuse which are becoming increasingly important as the world endures the climate emergency. On a large scale, the task therefore introduces issues that are relevant in today’s society and challenges that architects, and urban planners will have to consider in the future. On a smaller scale, our team will consider particular heritage values of buildings, deciphering the need to remove and retain aspects and study the smaller details of a building’s fabric. We will develop these skills through live discussions and presentations with external architects, exploration through sketching and CAD modelling and visualisation software.

Social Value // The social value within Inspire Bradford considers the positive effect that adaptive building reuse and retrofit can have on cities and residents. The project intends to encourage the reuse of existing structures as an alternative to demolition and ‘the new’. The masterplan proposals will tackle current climatic issues and create a larger-scale solution to building fabrics and energy systems. On a local level, the project programme includes the upskilling of Bradford’s local communities which have been disproportionally affected by current circumstances. The project brief is drawn from Bradford District’s Economic Recovery Plan (2020), in which the area of the city centre in focus is considered for a ‘Neighbourhood Retrofit’, creating a ‘15-minute neighbourhood’ in which access to local work, retail and services are sustained within the area.

Hey, I'm Kareem. I'm an MSA graduate and currently am a MArch student. Architecture is a broad field, but I've always found myself at my best within software and so - in this team, I'll be on the line for helping you guys in that department if you need any. I loved events as a BA student and hope we can deliver a project to you as engaging as the ones I participated in before; it's online so there are limitations, but we'll try our best to mitigate them. Events are also your time to network and learn from other students. We've got a tough project in Anthropocene, but tougher projects encourage personal development. Hi I’m Charlotte and I am a returning student at the MSA. I completed my BA in 2019 and went on to complete my Part 1 placement in Wilmslow, where I continue to work part time during my Masters. I am currently in the USE Atelier and within the project I will be the main point of contact between us and our collaborators. My skills lie in Microstation, adobe softwares, procreate and hand drawing. Im currently based in Manchester but a Yorkshire lass at heart and in my spare time I like to cook, paint or just get creative.
