Model Making.
Students will be testing and developing models choosing the materials found through research whilst also creating examples to show how designs can be tested through the process of model making.

Presentation.
The opportunity to practice presentation skills where students will engage with collaborative practitioners as well as external partners through online platforms such as Zoom.

Diagram.
Students will develop their skills of diagramming and being able to best present their research through a visual manner, contributing to a template output.

Research.
An essential skill that is needed within any architectural project! Research will be conducted to understand how the process of 'RE-USE' can be achieved through the Manchester Town Hall project.

Skills & Activities

The students will enhance their design and presentation skills through urban sketching, graphic design and the use of some Adobe software's, including InDesign and Photoshop, with organised guest lectures and workshops in conjunction with this. Communication will be key throughout this project as the students will be required to work together to produce the colouring booklet and communicate with the Invisible (Manchester) tour guides. Working with the tour guides is a fundamental element to the project, getting to know them and their story and portraying that through the booklet with sensitivity and creativity. The students will also have the opportunity to carry out some marketing for the colouring booklet.

I am 22 years old, from a small town called Chorley - about 25 miles outside of Manchester. I studied my undergrad at Liverpool John Moores University, graduating in 2020 and continuing straight on to study my MArch at MSA due to being a corona graduate! Hi, I am Phoebe. I graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and worked in practice for a year. I am from the InfraSpace Atelier and am particularly interested in urban scale masterplanning which is also a major element in this project. Upon moving to Manchester last September, my free time activity out of architecture during lockdown is cooking all my meals and trying out new recipes.

Upon completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool in my home city I moved to Manchester to begin my Part I placement in practice in the city centre. I then joined the MSA and am part of the InfraSpace atelier and continuing to explore my architectural interests of building reuse and social productivity in architecture.

Hi everyone! I’m Dan, I completed my undergrad in UWE Bristol back in 2018 and have spent 2 years in practice at Glenn Howells Architects in Birmingham (which is where I’m from). I joined MSA back in September 2020 and have chosen Continuity in Architecture as the atelier to be in for its approach that focuses on people and place. Outside architecture you’ll find me either at the climbing gym or at the pub.

Social Value Description:
Through the Manchester Digital Collective, Lifeshare gather a number of smartphones which can be given to the homeless. As a group we have been tasked with reinvigorating Lifeshare’s new e-learning platform that they have created to be used as a mobile app. This app is designed to initially teach the basics of how to use a smartphone which may be a new experience to many of the homeless population. Once people have learnt the essentials they can progress to a number of courses which teach skills from cooking to online banking, everything needed to adjust to a modern life.

In gamifying this app we seek to make what is already an admirable and accreditable platform more engaging so that people will want to use it more often. In this sense the work that we do is essential to the democratic dissemination of information. We give people a more appealing choice that they want to learn from. Lifeshare does not seek to instruct but to provide the method for the peoples’ own education.

Hey! I'm Enis! Previously I studied my Bachelor's in Özyeğin University, Istanbul, Turkey. After the graduation I worked as an architectural project manager for Nike Turkey HQ project. Currently I'm in the Advanced Practice atelier in MSA. Before I gained some experience on digital modelling, documenting, and surveying the historical built environment from the workshops for historical Kyrenia Castle in Cyprus and a for preserving a historical caravanserai in Istanbul.

I'm very interested in finding solutions by repurposing the existing architectural materials for sustainable architecture. In my free time I like to spend his time sailing, hiking and playing guitar. I'm looking forward to study on this project with you!

Introducing Artisan Studios' group members: Diana

Hi, I’m Diana! I’m a 5th year MArch student currently in the USE atelier. I am originally from Constanta, Romania. I studied my undergraduate degree at Sheffield School of Architecture in 2016-2019, then decided to take my year in practice.
During this year I moved to Bucharest, Romania and worked at a small office called Metropolis Architecture, where I engaged on a range of medium scale residential and commercial projects. During these 13 months I was able to gain a lot of experience with building regulations and the collaboration between client and designer. Being part of a small team of architects was really valuable as I got the chance to contribute to all RIBA stages of the projects.
Throughout my studies I became attracted to the practicality of my designs and its responses to the community needs. I believe that good architecture starts from thorough environmental research and a good contextualization of the design.
Out of the architectural field, I enjoy painting, mostly due to the fact that I did visual arts at school. My favorite time of the day is the evening with a cup of coffee in one hand and a provocative belletristic book in another.
The Artisan studio is a really engaging project with the potential of being actually built in the heart of Manchester! Having a relationship with a real client is what makes this project especially interesting. Being part of a team that is student led gives us the opportunity to get a taste of all steps, challenges and decisions that are going to get this project up and running for 4 years.

Introducing Artisan Studios' group members: Aaron

Hi, I’m Aaron and I’m a 5th year MArch student at MSA from Salford. I am currently in the Advanced practice atelier working on a proposed redevelopment of North Manchester General Hospital. I studied my BAHons at MSA from 2013-2016 before taking a few years out to gain experience in practice. I moved to London in 2017 to join Adamson Associates Architects where I worked on the Gehry Partners designed “Prospect Place” residential project at Battersea Power Station where I worked on-site for 1 ½ years. I then moved back to Manchester taking a job at AECOM before my return for Masters where I gained experience working on various industrial and governmental projects. My main interest in architecture is the design and upkeep of sustainable social housing and communities, stemming from my own background growing up in a working-class community in Salford, as well as the potential for Modern Methods of Construction to mitigate the built environments ecological impact.

Introducing Artisan Studios' group members: Cherilyn

Hi, I’m Cherilyn and I’m a 5th year MArch student currently in the Advanced Practice atelier. I am Malaysian and did my bachelor’s degree at Taylor’s University Malaysia in 2016-2018. I decided to take a year out to work in the industry and ended up working at Archiconic Sdn Bhd, a local firm based in Kuala Lumpur. Being involved in the initial design phases of high rise and low rise residential buildings, shophouses, industrial design and a school renovation project has exposed me to some of the local authority requirements and new software skills such as Sketchup and Lumion. Even though I have been involved in many project types, I found myself to be more passionate about public buildings and I intend to focus on user experience in these types of spaces in the near future.
The Artisan studio offers a great learning experience to be involved in designing for the wider community in real life, making it more meaningful to the society. Upon success of the project, it even allows the structure to be built in Albert Square for the next 4 years! I can’t wait to meet new people who are as passionate about contributing to the community!

Introducing Artisan Studios' group members: Claire

Hi, I’m Claire. I am originally from Brighton but have moved about the UK- I have lived as far south as Guernsey (the Channel Islands) and in Scotland where I studied at the University of Edinburgh. Since then, I have worked in both small and large practices in Wiltshire, Brighton and Bristol. I have gained experience working on a variety of projects, from country houses to an underground museum at the Tower of London, and even a centre for robotics. Now in Manchester, I am beginning a project involving parasitic timber structures and vertical farming as a part of the MSA &rchitecture atelier. Currently, I am really enjoying the creative 'blue-sky thinking' that student projects foster, as well as thinking about architecture as a means to help address much broader social issues.
Our MSA Live project seems to offer the best of both worlds: a real client and a real project - that may even get built - and the opportunity to work in a collaborative student-led environment in order to come up with some exciting ideas!

Introducing Artisan Studios' group members: Luke

Hi, I’m Luke! I’m a 5th year MArch student currently in the &rchitecture atelier. I am originally from down South from a town in Buckinghamshire. I studied my undergraduate degree at Oxford Brookes in 2015-2018, then decided to take 2 years out to work in industry. During my first year in industry I moved to London and worked at Scott Brownrigg in their Covent Garden office, working on a range of large scale educational and commercial projects. However, I enjoyed getting paid and having free weekends too much so I decided to take another year out, but instead I shifted to a smaller practice, Spratley & Partners, where I was able to gain a wider experience and see a new perspective to the architectural industry.
Throughout my architectural education I have always enjoyed addressing social issues within my designs and placing the user experience at the heart of architecture.
To me sport is a big part of my life as it keeps me balanced and focused, primarily from my background as a swimmer but I have more recently learnt to love running, as it’s a perfect escape from work.
The Artisan studio is a really exciting project and a great opportunity to potentially put your stamp on Albert Square for the next 4 years! We can’t wait to get started!

Introducing Artisan Studios' group members: Rosalyn

Hey, I’m Rosalyn.
When I first started studying for my BArch at Sheffield School of Architecture, I felt unsure of whether I had picked the right course for me and lacked confidence in my own ability. It was only until my final year at undergraduate level that I began to find my own rhythm and interests within architecture. These things can take some time!
Having spent my RIBA Part 1 at a small practice in Manchester, I am now a 5th year MArch student at Manchester School of Architecture. I am currently working on a re-use project for the Pankhurst Centre as part of the feminist atelier, Praxxis. I always aim to design projects that address local social issues whilst being sensitive to the surrounding urban fabric. As part of the Artisan studio project I am looking forward to learning more about the heritage skills that will be used to restore Manchester Town Hall and how our designs can help to accommodate these crafts.
Outside of Architecture, one of my biggest interests is music. I’m at my happiest when going to see artists and DJ’s perform and have missed it a lot since lockdown began last March. I’m hoping that I will be safe to do so in the next few months.

Social Engagement

This studio will provide a service to the wider community in the form of a space utilised to upskill, collaborate, and educate locals/employees in the kind of trades employed during the renovation of the town hall such as gilding, mosaics, heritage metalwork as well as providing opportunities for locals to work on the town hall project, and engaging with local schools and colleges to provide students with experience of the construction trades. A space where the local populace, made up of a diverse range of backgrounds, can come together and learn and work towards a common goal is important in fostering a strong community and will help equip school leavers and students as well as people later in their career paths and looking to retrain with knowledge and skills that can be put to use in their future careers.

The nature of the “Artisans Studio” project will provide an opportunity for collaboration between a wide range of stakeholders within the community and will be designed to minimise its impact on the environment using locally sourced materials, adaptive reuse of existing materials available on site and employing environmentally friendly energy solutions.

Project Partner: Our Town Hall Project

Artisan Studio will be working alongside the Our Town Hall Project which was set up by Manchester City Council in January 2018. This project consists of the restoration and refurbishment of Manchester Town Hall to preserve its architectural character for generations whilst also upgrading it’s facilities to meet modern safety and accessibility requirements. In addition to this, there are plans to renovate, resurface, and improve Albert Square as a public space and popular meeting place.
The scheme aims to boost public access and ensure that the building and square continues to play a role at the heart of city life. During the course of the planned work, The Our Town Hall Project hopes to create many exciting opportunities, including apprenticeships and a range of jobs and training schemes.

Project Partner: LendLease

Artisan Studio will be working in collaboration with Lendlease, a global construction, property, and infrastructure company. They manage building projects in over 40 countries across the world helping to shape cities and create strong and connected communities.
Since January 2020, Lendlease have been managing the repair, refurbishment, and partial restoration of Manchester Town Hall. Neil Martin, managing director, construction at Lendlease, Europe, said: “Manchester Town Hall is one of the city’s most recognisable and well-loved landmarks. Lendlease has a long track record of working with heritage buildings and enhancing them for contemporary use and we will bring all of this experience to bear at Manchester Town Hall.”

During our time together, Space Invaders will be looking into temporary portable structures and how they can be adapted for different activities that might happen in the town centre of Nelson. To explore these ideas further we will be doing models at 1:10, producing sketches, drawings, and diagrams.

During the two weeks we will be working in different mediums both digital and hand drawn to create convincing visuals. In addition to this you will also network with professionals from the art industry. We hope to use the knowledge we have all accumulated to identify and solve some of the existing challenges the town faces and make positive impact in the life of the residents of Nelson.

In this project we aim to create a more attractive public spaces in Nelson’s town centre. Our intervention will encompass temporary structures that can be adapted based on the different needs and desires of the town centre. These structures will serve as a catalyst for both social and economic activities. Through their adaptability we aim to offer opportunities for leisure and economic development such as outdoor public seating, market stalls and other activities that arise from the everyday.

We are also aware that the town of Nelson has a diverse community, with a mix of different cultures and faiths. Therefore, our proposal will aim to include every segment of the community and not neglect the people of Nelson. Our temporary structure aim to embody the rich diversity of the town and its different activities.

Our design will not only help the residents of Nelson, but it will create a landmark for the town to identify with. Our environmental intervention will create a safe environment for the local community, and we achieve this by using locally sourced building materials and involving the locals in the design and building process. Overall, our proposal aims to breathe new life in the town centre and forge stronger relationship within Nelson’s diverse community.

A chance to contribute in presenting the city through the eyes of the people and enhance its sense of belonging.

Colour The City aims to provide an alternative way to introduce Manchester in a more fun and creative approach, from a very personal and sentimental perspective.

Through this live project, we believe that the community could be as a unit that reflects the city despite backgrounds and profiles, thus breaking down community cohesion and inequality especially concerning homelessness. By exploring an alternative way to view Manchester during this unprecedented time, we could establish a new revenue to extend the helping hands in rebuilding lives and also introduce an architectural and artistic approach to improve one's well-being and contentment in remoteness.

Hello! Welcome to our RE-USE project in collaboration with Purcell architects.

The past two years I have worked in a small practice in St. Ives, Cornwall... where flip flops in the winter is a thing! I have gained experience working with projects such as the renovation of a 52-room victorian hotel, as well as working with larger community driven regeneration schemes.

I have developed over the years, an appreciation for how data management can greatly enhance resilience of architectures. By understanding, and utilising information management, one can begin to predict and design systesms that offer the architect a new stream of design possibilities. It is of the up most importannce in these times to use the tools we have available to be able to design unrestricted, whilst ensuring the industry commits to increasing the sustainability of our growing built environment.

Away from from design, I enjoy reading, learning new languages and getting out and about traveling the world for art and culture. What's your favourite gallery?

Manchester Health Academy is a secondary school located in Wythenshawe. Their aim is to provide their students with the knowledge and skills they need to reach ‘high aspirations'. They have strong connections with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust as well as Manchester City Council, comprised of a diverse community of students, the school is at the forefront of secondary school education, which endorses a wide range of important curriculum to choose from.

We plan to enrich the young adult's approach to courses which they would not be familiar with, specifically design-related. Carving a new and exciting path for students to take whilst their aspirations continue to expand and develop.

Social Values

As the core of our project is focused on the recycling of materials, our ambitions are to negate the long-term effects of waste, impacting our natural environment.

We look to alter the existing trends of the wasteful disposal from construction sites, often leading to nothing more than landfill. These materials then act as a pollutant to the built environment, and we no longer benefit from the embodied carbon of past construction. By eliminating construction waste, and researching and developing methods in how to sustainably re-use them, we can contribute to the circular economy and look after our planet.

We aim to promote the reuse of seemingly redundant material and foster a dialogue with the community, to encourage others to think beyond day to day recycling.

MEET THE COLLABORATOR
We are collaborating with the Lendlease, who is currently working with the city council on the Townhall restoration project. They have vast experience in working with historic buildings, as well as architecture and master planning.

The main collaborator with Lendlease will be Tamara Karim who will be providing us with the necessary information regarding the project. She is interested in social value and inclusive growth-related subjects and she is working along with employees of the city council to provide opportunities for Mancunians to explore the history of Albert Square.

“Companies must start justifying their worth to society, with greater emphasis placed on environmental and social impact rather than straight economics." are the words of Dick Dusseldorp, Founder of Lendlease. So joining our group gives you an opportunity to engage with the history of Albert Square and creating an interactive design module to archive it.

-Skills-
Over two weeks we're aiming to make five videos for prospective architecture students from disadvantaged backgrounds. These videos will focus on the following skills, physical model making, sketching, photography, mapping and portfolio. Along the way there will be evening talks from guest speakers on related topics. Through making these videos and engaging with these speakers we will expand our knowledge and skills in these topics and the production and editing of videos.

Meet our lovely and supportive collaborator - Invisible (Manchester)!

Invisible Manchester is a part of the wider Invisible Cities, is a social enterprise that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of Manchester.

They offer local and friendly walking tours of Manchester that showcase some of the city's historical landmarks and explore the social projects that make the city what it is.

Their experienced tour guides, all of whom have been affected by homelessness, simply live and breathe the city, and offer their own personal insight into the past, present, and future.

Our group is currently working with great volunteers from the Invisible Manchester team; Alice Spark, Lauren Rosegreen (Sales and Business Development Manager), Amelia Maltby (Community Engagement and Support Manager).

Interested in : Many eras of architectural history, specifically industrial heritage and the history of England’s post-war mass housing. I am also interested in self-build schemes, urban farming and timber frame design.
Hobbies outside of architecture include woodturning, painting, and growing plants.
Case Study: Eggborough Power Station: Eggborough power station is one of a number of decommissioned coal-fired power stations along the River Aire, in the Selby district of North Yorkshire. The station opened in 1970, and at its peak, generated enough electricity to power 2 million homes, and hosted many local sporting teams and social events on its grounds.

Site Analysis: Ferrybridge ‘C‘ was the third coal-fired power station ever to be built on the Ferrybridge site. At the time of construction, it was the first station in UK to run on 500MW units. Throughout its lifetime, it reached several milestones – like in 1973 when its Unit 2 set a world record by running non-stop for 5,488 hours, as well as underwent some critical times during its tower collapse of 1965 and the fire of 2014.
Born in: Romania and studied both BA and MA at Manchester School of architecture.
Interested in: infrastructural developments and the potential of emerging technologies to create a more accessible architecture.
Hobbies include: analogue and digital painting.Interested in : Environmental design

MY DESIGN APPROACH
Since commencing the course back in 2017 I have always been fond of the application of natural elements within a building. We as architects need to take a more conscious approach when designing to provide public space and reclaim land which has been neglected and underappreciated. Reclaiming public space should be on everyone's agenda.

I consider myself to be energetic and amicable with skills ranging from digital software to drawing and model making. I hope to pass on my knowledge that I have acquired over the three years of being at the MSA. I hope to be an effective team member taking up an advisory role to assist in curating the best possible experience for both parties.

Siyuan L

I’m Siyuan Lin, an architect from China. My interest aspects including the restoration of old buildings and advanced technology. Today, the urbanization process continued to accelerate, and old buildings can hardly match with the current society, causing many conflicts in the development. The problem is worse especially for China, such a rapidly rising star, and I am still working to figure it out. The key is to balance the needs of the people and the preservation of the culture in the restoration.

Meet the Collaborator

Vanessa is an Architect who is part of the Purcell team working on the refurbishment of Grade I Listed Manchester Town Hall, where she is also responsible for several educational outreach programmes that add social value to the project, alongside work as a visiting tutor at Manchester School of Architecture.

Prior to her involvement with the Town Hall project, Vanessa worked on a variety of projects spanning across different sectors, specialising in large cultural schemes such as Battersea Power Station and Drapers’ Hall, and smaller scale residential/mixed use projects before relocating to Manchester to undertake her Masters degree, where her joint thesis project was nominated for the RIBA Silver Medal Award (2017).

Interested in: Industrial heritage, repurposing the legacies of the past and preserving them for the future. Focusing on newtowns and post-war housing in particular for my dissertation.
Outside architecture: Running, food, and lying on a beach in Australia for two years.
Case Study: Drax power station: Drax was the largest coal fired power station in the country and is still in use today, having switched fuel source to biomass. Being the largest station built by the CEGB, scale and infrastructure are of particular interest. At its peak, it provided power to 6% of the UK. The station was built in two phases, the first opened in 1974, with the second phase completing in 1986. Again providing an interesting point of research. Being one of the later stations, there are a lot of interesting comparisons to be made and many design decisions and lessons learnt from the earlier stations.

Case Study: Gascoigne Wood Drift Mine, part of the Selby Complex, was the last coal mine to be built in the UK. 5 different shafts spread across the Selby area transported their coal underground to the surface exit at Gascoigne Wood.

Case Study: Kellingley Colliery, West Yorkshire was the last deep-mine to close in the UK in 2015. The colliery was designed during a growing consciousness of the impact of post-war infrastructure on landscapes and set a precedent in the development of amenity provision for future mining communities.

Kirsty Thomas, a former Art and Design Teacher, is the driven Founder of the Make Bank. Outside of The Make bank she is also the Director and Founder of the design studio Tom Pigeon.

The Make Bank is a social project which addresses issues associated with creative poverty. They enable disadvantaged young people to pursue creative educations and careers. The Make Bank started this journey in 2018 and continues to impact creative lives of the youth throughout the UK.

IN PRACTICE
I have worked in two practices. I first worked at a company called Aeseu for 6 months and worked on the design of a school called new campus of Nanjing Agricultural University. The second practice I worked at was a real estate architectural design company called PTA in shanghai for one year. I was mainly working on high-rise residential buildings design.

INTERESTS IN ARCHITECTURE
I chose to study architecture because as I am a big fan of Le Corbusier. I quite enjoy the process of exploring, designing and creating designs in architecture

OUTSIDE OF ARCHITECTURE
I am a traveller. My dream is traveling around the world, experiencing different culture and interacting with different people as the world is worth exploring. Besides this I am, I am keen on photography. Taking pictures is perfect way to retain fleeting beauty.

IN PRACTICE
In my junior year, I was excited to work as an intern in TJAD for a short period of time, which enabled me to have a preliminary understanding of the architecture industry outside the university. The second practice I worked at was Urban Union Design Limited after graduation.

INTERESTS IN ARCHITECTURE
I’ve always had a keen interest to study architecture. I like aesthetics, rationality and curiosity. I enjoy all aspects that are involved the subject. I also enjoy the tiny scales and details that are involved in design.

OUTSIDE OF ARCHITECTURE
I am a curious person by nature, which makes me interested in many things. I particularly enjoy listening to music, singing and playing musical instruments.

During the pandemic, it is especially important for our well-being to have the opportunity to express ourselves through art. After a series of online workshops where individuals will meet, there will be an online exhibition where everyone’s work is displayed together. This will unite urban landscapes, as well as their occupants, and enable a space where societies across the world can share their passion for sketching!

IN PRACTICE
I worked at a multidisciplinary firm in Bedford, called Woods Hardwick, for a year. I was part of the residential team and worked on schemes of different sizes for a variety of housing developers. Most of my time was spent using photoshop, AutoCAD and Sketchup to produce masterplans and visuals for these schemes.

INTERESTS IN ARCHITECTURE
My interest in both the creative arts and technical workings of objects lead me to choose to study architecture. Initially I was unaware of the comprehensive nature of the course. Since starting I’ve developed a particular interest in the experiences, emotions and attachments architecture and the built environment evoke.

OUTSIDE OF ARCHITECTURE
I have a particular interest in food and trying cuisines form different cultures and countries whilst also attempting to cook them. I Rock Climb when I can and enjoy taking walks and hikes around built and natural environments. I’m fond of board games and binge watching series and movies whilst doing art related activities on my days in.

IN PRACTICE
I have worked for Leach Rhodes walker in Manchester on the hotel concept team. I developed feasibility studies, planning proposals and construction drawings for a range of brands such as Motel One, Radisson, Hilton and other independent clients. I have also worked on many private dwellings as a freelance designer.

INTERESTS IN ARCHITECTURE
I’m particularly interested in residential architecture and aspire to run a practice of my own which specialising in bespoke homes and housing schemes.

OUTSIDE OF ARCHITECTURE
I have a passion for art, fashion, design and culture in general. I work as a gallery assistant and picture framer. I also worked as a bartender for many years developing menus and have won cocktail competitions for brands. I also love cars, music and Netflix.

IN PRACTICE
After having worked at Paddock Johnson during the summer of my second year, I then returned for another year post graduating from oxford Brookes. Whilst at paddock Johnson I mainly worked on social housing projects.

INTERESTS IN ARCHITECTURE
My interests within architecture include using hand drawing as an exploration process. Further to this, understanding that architectural language can often be exclusive by nature, I enjoy finding alternative means to communicate architectural ideas.

OUTSIDE OF ARCHITECTURE
My interests outside of architecture include a variety of needle work. I enjoy sewing, knitting and crocheting in my spare time. I take pleasure in hiking in the outdoors as well.

As part of Sketchy Business, we’ll be engaging in activities centred around international networking through sketching. From time-constrained drawing exercises to help loosen our individual styles (physically or digitally in illustration software), to the curation of an online exhibition & live workshops with involvement from industry collaborators (using the Adobe Suite & Livestreaming platforms), this project is for those who love to draw at every opportunity. Photography and digital networking skills will also be developed throughout the project. Anyone who wants to learn more about the power of illustration as a powerful means of communication within the architectural industry is more than welcome here!

IN PRACTICE
I worked for two years in two different practices. The first year I worked at a small 6-person practice in Liverpool called Craig Foster Architects, here I mainly worked on shopping centres and a large series of gas-fired power stations. In my second year, I worked for Donald Insall Associates, a national practice with around 130 people spread over a number of offices around the UK and specializing in historic buildings. Located in the Chester office I mainly worked on, a grade II listed hotel on the banks of the River Dee in Wales and a housing scheme within the listed gardens of an old manor house.

INTERESTS IN ARCHITECTURE
I'm interested in architecture designed closely around its programmatic function and creative use of technology, materials and detailing. My favourite buildings are The House For Essex by FAT architects & Greyson Perry as well as the Querini Stampalia palace by Carlo Scarpa

OUTSIDE OF ARCHITECTURE
I enjoy walks in the countryside and photography. I am also keen on sailing and kayaking. Gardening tends to be a stress reliever. I have fun cooking different dishes as well.
