Events 2018

A day in the studio collating photographs, videos, drawings and documents for the video and individual portfolios. We then arranged and organised them in a logical sequence by sketching out a template for the 3-minute video of our events process before setting up the time frames for each of them to put in the video.

Day 7 (26 Apr)
Lecture time! Gabe shared his experience with 1st year and 2nd year students to guide them how to create a wonderful main image in V-Ray/Sketch up.

Following the test on the rigidity of the exhibition as a whole, a trial set up of the exhibition examines how the booklets will be displayed to the audiences. A very productive week and looking forward to presenting all the works for the final exhibition!

Day Eight: Final full day spent on the publication. The weekend will be spent curating all the final pieces of research together for the test print on Monday. Seen above is an image of an abandoned building in Detroit called the Fisher Body Plant which a spread of the publication will be dedicated too.

Day 1 - Undergraduate students are reading the Spatial Capacities document and getting prepared for our discussion in order to highlight interesting comparisons and findings of the existing data.

EXHIBITION CHECKLIST//
On Tuesday next week will hold an exhibition in the Town Hall in which we will display the following outputs. Other groups working on the Town Hall project will also exhibit their event outputs. This exhibition is not open to the public due to the confidential nature of the project. It will be attended by events groups working on the Town Hall project and the collaborators. It is a chance to celebrate and explore the work produced during the events programme.

This morning's session consisted of the undergraduates preparing the final boards for Monday's Community Engagement. The whole group discussed the quality of the prints and identified the ones that we wanted printing at a higher quality. They all then split up into sub-groups to cut, buy the materials and make the frame for the boards in order for them to be securely attached to the exhibition.

Everyone's final 'swatches' are presented here to conclude the exhibition catalogue / co-housing booklet.

The aim of this booklet is to bring all the students’ work together in a coordinated format in order to compare and contrast them against six key variables. We have experimented with different characteristics, eventually settling on six variables which we saw as the best fit to describe the projects.

The booklet divides the schemes up page by page, specifically focusing on the best representations of each variable, and a key explains the different qualities examined.

This morning was spent cutting down our exhibition boards to fit the cuboid timber framework the team have constructed over the course of the week.

A very productive week all round; constructing, curating and collaborating!

Editing: Today was spent inspecting all the ready elements for the publication. Editing, adjusting and testing the information on the proposed layouts that reflect the stylistic features found around the city.

Friday: Today consists of testing the collages as well as clarifying the texts that students have produced as a response to their research topic. Each student has written no less than 500 words reflecting on their findings.

Compiling: Today, we are reflecting on everything that we have done this week. From the tour in the Norther Quarter, to the guided tour around the city centre, every aspect of learning this week is being mirrored in the publication.

We have the capacity as future architects to explore different ways of practicing, and these may result in different formal expressions.

Day 8// Hailey Hao // The team split into two groups, One made the physical model and other made the visuals and drawings necessary for the final submission. Hailey put great effort in making the model accurately on the scale. Keep up the good work!

Day 8// So proud of our BA Y1 and Y2 students. The group managed to finish their GAs today and do a workshop 1:20 model! Still a bit of refinement to go but really good work for the last 8 days.

Printing of the Spatial Capacities document done! Time for the book binding! The document includes the Spatial Capacities report that PHASE group produced the previous semester as well as a booklet with the conclusions and comparisons of the document called exclusive summary and produced by our PHASE events group!

Looking like the ground is well on its way to being fit for a conference level team. Just a few more promotions to go for Wythenshawe then.

Good research and design input by a key few!

All the cladding panels are completed and ready to move to site for construction next week. Very pleased with how they have all turned out.

Great to see our students' designs develop into short presentations this afternoon. We look forward to further development and the final presentation to Bruntwood on Tuesday.

With the finalised, printed version of the game we could start recording the movie. It would present each of the steps needed to fulfil the game by the participants of Community Engagement meeting.

DAY 8//
The site model is complete! Great work guys. We will add the partitions to the model once they are all complete. The students also started producing their A3 sheets which will compile their sketches, photos and experiences from the events project together. The students can then use these in their portfolios. Two students went to the Oh Ok workshop today to create a large scale version of their partition concept in clay.

The design workshops we introduced to the 1st and 2nd years over the course of the events week are now being put up into the overall frame.

I was amazed to see how many languages we knew between us!

Can't wait to see these painted onto one group's maze wall.

Anti-slip measured and cut to size. Adhesive about to be applied.

The canvas has arrived and we will start to measure it up today so that it can be sewn on Monday morning!

Like the person, the ply wood is also being cut to size so that it can fit in the stud 'wings'. These will be spray painted once the design team has finished their designs and stencils.

The clear perspex panels are being fixed to the 'wings'! We are hoping to fill these panels with models that are relevant to the Manchester histories Festival.

Some of our design team are working on the stencils that will be used for the spray painted plywood designs. These will be fixed to the stud 'wings'.

DAY 8 // Even though both the MMU and UOM workshops were full and busy today, the First and Second years used the lobby to make their models with soft boards. Great work Group!
