Day 8
Production and fireproofing of the final paper clusters in studio.
Posted 29 Mar 2017 16:40
'Tessellated Tunes' installation slowly taking shape today in the Night & Day Café! Although the installation process went quite smoothly, we had to adjust the heights of the clusters due to site restrictions. Installation continues tomorrow!

Transportation of paper clusters to the site
Posted 28 Mar 2017 20:10
The process of fireproof spraying of our individual modules took place on the 4th floor terrace! We made some good use of the nice weather!
Posted 28 Mar 2017 20:03
Before heading to the site today to assemble the first part of the
installation, we produced detail drawings with measurements and height variations to speed up the process.
Posted 28 Mar 2017 19:47
To experiment with the arrangement of the installation clusters we
produced several 3D model variations. The design chosen transforms in scale from small-large to small clusters creating a dynamic flow in space. Due to restrictions in time and materials
we decided to construct only the central part of the final design.
Posted 28 Mar 2017 19:36
Today we have made a good start with assembling the installation on site, whilst some of us continued preparing origami modules in the studio.
Posted 28 Mar 2017 18:00
The group worked hard all day Monday to create half the origamis needed for the installation. We played around with scale of the components which varied from A4 (paper) sizes up to A1.
Posted 28 Mar 2017 10:46
The origamis were designed so it was possible to easily attach them together to create variation of forms. After experimentation it was decided that the optimum shape required 3 origamis per cluster.

Preparing the space in 'Night & Day' Café for our installation today! Many thanks to our sponsor, Sika Limited UK for making this to move forward!

Rich pattern formed with tessellated paper origami. The white colour of our installation compliments the dark space of the site very well.
Posted 25 Mar 2017 17:49
When things get a bit messy! Our origami modules can be worn as hats! This Friday with had a very relaxed session and we made sure that we had some fun on the side as well!
Posted 25 Mar 2017 17:38
Our first 1:1 mock up seen from underneath ! Connections need more work, but the visual effect is there.

SESSION 4 -
Presentation day! We finalised our presentation boards and printed them in the morning, running through points of discussion and question for our clients.

The concepts were all well received and between the firth years and the manager, group 1’s design was choice to take forward. However elements of all the design such as placement and pattern will be included in the final installation.
Posted 23 Mar 2017 19:11
SESSION 3 -
Using the concept that we’re presented at the end of the previous session, the students were asked to develop this in to 1:1 sketch models (in groups) while considering placement and connections of their modules.

We discussed issues and areas of improvement and moved on to creating presentation boards for the client meeting on Thursday with more solidified designed.

SESSION 2 -
We started with a brief discussion of the days expectations, held a workshop experimenting with traditional origami patters and original tessellation used to inform then concept design that followed in the afternoon.

First and second years were asked to sketch basic idea in plan, section and elevation (in three groups) within the confines of the survey they produced.
