#Day 02-Afternoon session

We had so much fun in our session yesterday with the school children of St. Mary's Primary School!

The children were given the opportunity to draw their school out of memory and later on design their ideal education environment.

As a final exercise, we design in groups an ideal city environment!!

Now the task is to take on board what we've learned and we noted and translate these into an ideal city - interactive exhibition for them!!

STAGE 2
Having established the spatial understanding of the spaces at hand, we will then perform a sketching exercise where the children will be asked to represent the spaces they examined differently, using their innovative way of ordering their surroundings.

STAGE 3
We will perform a different sketching exercise where the children will be split into three groups of five. Each group will be given an A1 sheet, with an image of a specific city view (axonometric & street views), they will be asked to trace over the sheets to create what they would perceive as the perfect city for children.

Can't wait to see you all on Wednesday

Our strategy for the workshop with the students comprise of three stages that will familiarise them with simple architectural terms that define space, improve their cognitive understanding of their everyday learning environment, and engage them through simple design tasks in creating a space for themselves by themselves.

STAGE 1
Take the children on a tour of their school campus. As they enter each space, we will perform a set of experiments and have a brief Q&A session to establish an understanding on how they start to perceive the spaces through concepts such as scale, function and materiality.

Check out the next posts for the other two stages!

Hi Guys, to ensure the success of OUR event and to provide you with all the necessary materials we are fundraising to cover some of the expenses.

We believe that our project will enhance our understanding, as future architects, on the importance of an inclusive environment. Investigating subjects like scale, materiality, and access we are aiming to conclude on statements and suggestions on how we could change the way we develop the built environment.

We will much appreciate it if you share the link below to any friends, family, industry-related parties that might be interested in supporting our event or even interested in learning our findings from our workshops.

Hi, my name is David, I'm 24, Welsh and initially got interested in Architecture after reading up on Frank-Lloyd Wright. I am particularly interested in future-adaptable design especially in a world with Global Warming and find our course particularly useful when the building picture round comes up at the pub quiz

#Hi

Hi everyone. My name is Yuchong QIAN, but you can call me Mike. I am from China. I completed my first two-year study at Nanjing University and moved to Manchester School of Architecture from Year 2. I got my BA degree here and went back to China for a one-year internship. I have worked in Urban Architecture in Shanghai for half a year, mainly focused on residential. Then I moved to the architecture design institute of Southeast University to have a practice on public architecture like schools, and football stadiums.
I recently came back to Manchester to do my Master and kept my BA choice: QED atelier. I am comparatively interested in the user-centred architecture, aimed to make building serve the public all-around with eco-friendly theory. I am looking forward to seeing you in April and have a great time with you and the kids.

Hello everyone! My name is Yara and I am Half Syrian and half Lebanese. I completed my BA in Lebanon in 2015 and took two years out. During my first year, I worked in Lebanon with ERGA, a local firm with which I worked on a mixed-use residential/ commercial compound called Beirut waterfront. I was mainly based on site which proved to be a very insightful experience. During my second year, I participated in establishing an academy of arts in Damascus, Syria which was definitely a life-changing project. This year I started my MArch with atelier QED within which I have been working on projects mainly focused on the re-use of old buildings with an innovative and environmentally friendly approach... I can't wait to meet you all and learn more about you as well.
See you soon!!!
