A productive and intriguing visit to the fabric shop this morning with some of the members of our team. We explored the various types of printing methods and fabrics available to print on ,which gave us an insight into costing and production time. 📌

Graphics and Booklet Team

Whilst the construction team have begun work on building the Soapbox the graphics team have made a start on designing panels to decorate the Soapbox! Each member of the team has picked one of the festival's themes so we've got plenty of different graphics ranging from CND posters to a Speaker's Corner timeline.

Day Two: Yesterday we visited the town hall to understand its history and each group found the part what they liked. This morning meeting, each group briefly introduced the parts they were preparing to start and then began collecting relevant information.

Thankfully we were able to get them delivered the following day instead! The majority of the materials have arrived and the remaining are on schedule to arrive tomorrow.

Research on materials
The group are divided in to two. One works on the Skin of the shelter and the other work on the Structure. At the end of the day they will share the information among the member of the group and develop to the design on the next day.

The construction team have been preparing the final drawings and ensuring all dimensions are correct before the first timbers are cut. The other team are off to a positive start and have already proposed great ideas for the perspex design.

Recap - Yesterday we were lucky enough to receive a tour of Manchester Town Hall. The team were then split into sub-groups and selected an element they found most interesting. We have a total of 5 sub-groups, all researching precedents of their chosen element.

In the afternoon, initial design session was held. Everyone participated well with their ideas about pop-up cinema. We talked through our impression on the site visit and the town.
At the end, everyone including master's students came out with masterplan design of pop-up cinema and we shared all the ideas for the next design stage. It was a nicely-done design session and well done for everyone!

Incredibly pleased to announce our new collaborators... The Memoirs. Nottingham's five piece, twin guitar, alt-rock band hail from the same university that gave us London Grammar an Amber Run. The Memoirs, having recently supported homeless charities in Nottingham, have provided exclusive access to their single 'Matter of Time'. We will be featuring the single in our final production video.

As with the tour of the Town Hall today, tomorrows tour will be sure to give you a lot of inspiration and information which you will no doubt want to capture and record to use later in the events programme. So don't forget to bring your essential tour items: sketchbooks, pens, a camera and anything else that you think will help you better document the character of the outdoor spaces you will be visiting.

Once we have our material curated and exhibition designed, we will need to build a prototype for our final events.

Our preferred prototype uses canvas fabric to display our work, but also keep the exhibition lightweight and easily demountable.

Today we have explored some of the options available for printing directly onto textiles in the School of Art.
