As well as digital skills our EVENTS program will use the skill of drawing.

"Drawing aids us to be, teaches how to observe and understand, to describe reality, to become aware of the elements which comprise the whole of its textures, its colours, its contours its proportions and its shade of light."
- Ibiza museum of contemporary art

A big part of our EVENTS program this year is to digitally communicate and curate the activities taking place, both during the official Northern Soul Charrette Day organised by RIBA, as well as during the EVENTS fortnight.

If you have any digital skills you are particularly strong at and enjoy using or that you would like to learn or develop further, let one of the team know, so we can help you broaden your capabilities alongside the fun program we have planned for you.

Happy Easter!

#COLLAGE

As part of Events week, each member of the M.Arch team will run their own programme that explores the relationship between art and architecture. Mine will be as follows:

This session will focus on drawing as a method for designing and representing architecture. First, each M.Arch will present their favourite architectural drawing that they have ever done. Next, each student will be asked to pick an artistic style (impressionist, pop art etc) out of a hat. Each student will also be asked to take a piece of A2 trace and a segment of an image that M.Arch have printed and divided. Each student must reproduce their segment of the image in the artistic style that they have chosen. At the end, the segments will be re-joined to produce one collage. This will be displayed as part of the final symposium.

#STAYSAFE

This week we completed our risk assessment to make sure that we can complete our events programme safely. We will go through this with you on the first day of events before undertaking the days activities.

We can't wait to start working with you and hope you are as excited as we are!

Posted 23 Mar 2018 12:44
It's the last day before the Easter holidays? Is everybody excited?

To keep you all updated, we met with our client, the MSSA, and took them through all the details of information and design we have been gathering the past few weeks. Safe to say - they are as excited as us for this collaboration and most importantly of getting a new active desk that is actually theirs as well as meeting the rest of the team ( our BA additions).

P.S. It's amazing how much they are involved in while working through their BA studies.
Posted 23 Mar 2018 11:59
Nothing says discussions better than a Thursday session exploring the parameters and dimensions of our site and the future design of the MSSA desk. We've got a great session plan for the BA students and we can't wait to show them what we've prepared!

Photo taken within the bookbinding workshop on 15.03.18. As part of our research into creating our final comic book pieces, we decided to check out the possibility of using risograph printing. Described as digital screen printing, the final outcome can be a very sophisticated piece. It is also good for mass production which is something that could be useful if we intend to hand out some of the comics to the public too. We were shown examples of work and the capabilities of risograph printing.

Hi, I am Thomi Steliou, 5th year student in USE atelier.

I had my Bachelor degree at Manchester School of Architecture. For my year out, I worked for Forum Architects in Cyprus, on a confidential project in Saudi Arabia. I am really interested in the spatial experience in architecture and study the psychological and emotional behaviour of objects and spaces.

Therefore, our event project offers a connection between the user and the object and I am over-excited to start examining different possibilities for our output. Our work bench proposal should be a combination between studies of ergonomics, as well as, an inspirational unit for the user (artists).

PS. I love model making!!

After another meeting with our collaborator from Luna, Vicky! We discussed some further details about the work bench project. Also we just completed our risk assessment along with the technical team of the to make sure that everyone enjoys safely our events. Along with the risk assessment, we developed a detailed timetable to make sure that our work is on schedule!

Collaborators: Having had a chat with the events group, Soapbox. There is a good chance we will be able to exhibit our work in their exhibition. This gives us the chance to showcase our weeks work. Another element we are considering adding to this is the idea of possibly running a competition within the events group. This will allow the best piece of work to get the largest allocation in the Soapbox exhibition.

Filmic Inspiration: We are starting to formulate a series of precedents for which our film could look like. Seen in the image above is the poster for the popular anthology series, Black Mirror. If you find any videos you think ours should be presented like, make a note of them and we will go through them during our first meeting. Below is a link to a precedent for the recent trailer for the fourth season of Black Mirror. Notice the transition between archival and footage from the actual show for inspiration for our final outcome.

The team have been looking at branding ideas for the desk space. We've been thinking of making it a statement piece by being creative with the material, and implementing it into the desk itself - it's a change from your usual stickers and badges.

DESIGN ALERT!

We've been looking at flexible and efficient storage spaces for the MSSA desk, as well as the materiality. Take a look here where there's an idea of integrating a book nook into the seating. We're thinking about attaching wheels to the underside so it's also easier to transport away from the space.

Hi Guys, to ensure the success of OUR event and to provide you with all the necessary materials we are fundraising to cover some of the expenses.

We believe that our project will enhance our understanding, as future architects, on the importance of an inclusive environment. Investigating subjects like scale, materiality, and access we are aiming to conclude on statements and suggestions on how we could change the way we develop the built environment.

We will much appreciate it if you share the link below to any friends, family, industry-related parties that might be interested in supporting our event or even interested in learning our findings from our workshops.

PURCELL// Architects
Heritage architects who are currently working on the town hall

PLANIT-IE// Landscape Architects
