What is the role of art in shaping our impression of a space? // Download Poster

Atelier: CPU

Our group met on day four in order to finalize the idea we agreed on in the previous meetings. We started researching all the necessary images for our project and the actual methods needed to implement everything.

In the first day of our 3D Graffiti Event we received the brief by the 5th years student and they show us examples of what is 3d projection mapping. At first they divide us in 3 groups and they told us that the following day we have to discuss about the site that we are going to use ,how to relate transgression architecture with our concept and how we are going to use the projector in our work.
Posted 14 May 2015 23:01
Here we are discussing the issue we could raise and how to convey the message. We got together and continued the project.
Posted 14 May 2015 20:13
Planning the panels according to the area we have chosen to project our idea.
Posted 14 May 2015 20:11
As our ideas coalesced into a single theme, the specific necessities of the site became more and more obvious. We had an idea of the size of the space we required and the nature of circulation around it, the number of routes into the space and the number of people likely to use it. In this way we systematically eliminated sites until we were left with our chosen space on the third floor.
Posted 14 May 2015 18:54
We spent a while in our sub groups collaborating and combining ideas through sketches and diagrams and explaining our modes of thought to one another. Having settled on a few more completed ideas that effectively utilised site and conveyed the theme; we presented to the rest of the group.
Posted 14 May 2015 18:41
On the second day we met up as a group and discussed our ideas, narrowing down our concept and decided what we wanted to project and where. We then pitched this idea to the rest of our event group and event leaders for some useful feedback.

We roamed the Benzie building looking for suitable sites to project onto. The entrance to Benzie was identified as a potential space to work with as we recognized the huge flow of people through this space would lead to interesting interactions with out projection
Posted 14 May 2015 18:06
On the first day we were divided into groups. We began brainstorming and bounced ideas off each other then decided to go away and each come up with several ideas of not only the site but what we wanted to project onto
Posted 14 May 2015 18:03
-14,5-Finally we came up with a final idea! We are going to fabricate something behind the stair. There will be five layers with holes and these holes can guide people focus on the final layer. On the final layer we will present a video. We've made some sketch models and it looks work.
Posted 14 May 2015 15:00
On our next session, having our final idea, we started to explore various software. We were using different websites like 'Lynda' and 'YouTube' to develop skills in animation and to see how the projection mapping actually works
Posted 14 May 2015 14:32
On our third session each member of our group had to come up with different ideas of site, object and projection. We had to present our suggestions and findings in front of the whole group. After we had our feedback we chose one idea to develop further
Posted 14 May 2015 14:26
On our second session we were looking into different precedents of 3D projection mapping in order to develop a better understanding of our task and to find an inspiration
Posted 14 May 2015 14:13
On our first day of Events after we received our brief we were divided into groups of five people. We had to discuss three main subjects- finding a site for our installation, the object on which we are going to project, what to project on it and how to relate that to architecture of transgression
Posted 14 May 2015 14:03
With this site we hd the idea of animating the bridge as people moved from one side to the other. We where looking at how to do this, either using rapping or digital animation on after effects.
Posted 14 May 2015 13:18
We began to investigate into different sites for us to project, looking at different angles and materials to project on.
Posted 14 May 2015 13:15
For the first session we met in 713 and received our brief. It had changed to projections from 3d graffiti due to an issue with acquiring a place to spray on.We split into groups and brainstormed ideas.
Posted 14 May 2015 13:11
Unfortunately today our subgroup faced some problems of actually projecting onto our initial space as it wasn't dark enough and was too dangerous to be authorised. Therefore we had to chose a new space and think of new ideas which went very well.
Posted 14 May 2015 12:25
-13.5-We had a meeting and each group had some great idea. Our group chose the the staircase on ground floor as our site. The initial idea was using projector to present something like a waterfall on the stairs. Then we tried to show this idea on a photo by using Photoshop (in picture).
Posted 14 May 2015 02:12
We started to look for different software which would help us in add effects to live camera feeds. This turned out to be a bit of a challenge but we found a way to counteract this problems if worse comes to worse.
Posted 14 May 2015 00:11
today we started by presenting our ideas to the rest of the people in the room. Since my group had not finalised our idea we just pitched all of the different ideas that we had. We then asked the other groups which they thought was the best one. We went with a idea which involved people interacting with themselves.
Posted 14 May 2015 00:08
As a group we're analysing the area on which we would like to project our proposed concept. As a group we determined the area and number of panels we can fit on this space.
Posted 13 May 2015 23:36
Every group had to present their concept idea of how, what and where to project their ideas. In this session we were given feedback and suggestion to what precedent we should look that would help us with the process.
Posted 13 May 2015 23:34
Here I am learning from the online tutorial of the software which will help us project the images/videos in a creative way.
Posted 13 May 2015 23:31
In the same day (day three), after the session our group stayed behind to discuss ideas. After agreeing on a final scheme, we went to choose and analyse a fitting site.
Posted 13 May 2015 23:30
On the third day, we were asked to present our initial ideas. Each group presented at least two ideas and we had to choose one to further investigate and to relate to transgressive architecture.
Posted 13 May 2015 23:28
We met everyone on Monday in our first session. The fifth years explained to us what the event is about and have introduced us to the topics of projection and transgressive architecture. We were divided into three groups, each with the task of creating a project which will influence a space of our choosing.
Posted 13 May 2015 23:28
Later having agreed on our ideas and the direction of the outcomes we would like to aim towards, we explained our thoughts to the rest of our events group and its leaders. This process was very useful as we obtained useful feedback from which we could progress and develop our ideas further.
Posted 13 May 2015 22:47
After having established our ideas as a group, we agreed on a specific place to create our projections on to enhance the experience of the viewers. We also took into consideration the placement of the projectors and how it would effect the peoples movement or cause hazards.
Posted 13 May 2015 22:39
We met today to discuss the ideas we had developed and shared our research at the start of the session to create initial ideas.
Posted 13 May 2015 22:35
Having established our sub groups in the previous meetings; today was about presenting the findings we had made over the past couple of days. Each group had come up with a variety of ideas in a range of locales within the Art School linking to the idea of transgressive architecture

The first session was very interesting, getting to grips with the whole project and its outputs. We were then divided up into sub groups and told we were to compete for the exhibition space of the final output. Should be an exciting couple of weeks!
Posted 13 May 2015 11:36
-11.5-In our first meeting we've defined what shall we do and we grouped three small groups. Our group discussed where could be our site. we also decided to meet on 12.5 so we had time to find some precedents. It is so glad to meet some new friends!
Posted 12 May 2015 23:52
At the first session of the events - 11.05 - Monday, we wre introduced the brief for our event. After giving us the schedule for the next 2 weeks we were split into groups and started working. We had to look for a site for our instalation and to come up with initial ideas of what we are going to do.
Posted 12 May 2015 23:13
Once the grouped had a bit of a discussion we decided that we should all go away and come up with some ideas which we will then put together and look for the best one. We started to look at different structures or forms which we could make to project the image/video on to.
Posted 11 May 2015 12:35
Once we got to know the people who we had been grouped with we starting narrowing down what we had to do. We started looking for different areas/site we could use in Chatham. We came up with a few places which we could use. One of these places was the outdoor open space on the fourth floor.
Posted 11 May 2015 12:27
The first session was interesting in the sense that we got to grips with what we will be having to do over the next two week period. The more I learned about the project, the intrigued I became into seeing what the end product of the next couple weeks will be. The first plan of action was to split into small groups and start pitching ideas to each other.
