Posted 21 May 2015 17:33
Reception area include furniture such as sofa made of black bottle holder boxes and reused cushions, table made of catalogues and wooden palette as well as hangers made of no longer used chairs which are perfect for hanging the coat. There are also wooden benches. In the kitchen area, there is a flower installation on the walls where plastic bottles were used.

The presentation of the final outcomes is one of the very important stages which examine how well the whole process of constructing the sustainable office environment went. The spotlighting was used to enhance the narrative and atmosphere dominating the space and highlighting the focus on creating homely and comfortable office place where all users would enjoy sustainable furniture.

It’s all about the base, about the base… Creating a tall structure with poor structural support caused a major problems with stability. As the precedent study did not indicate how the hanger wall was fixed to the floor we had to solve architectural riddle by experimenting with various set ups of the wall, angles as well as the bases. The picture above shows the first wooden base which did not pass a test as it was not heavy enough to hold a big amount of hangers in the place as well as the surface area was very small and easy to case the whole wall to fall on the floor.
Posted 21 May 2015 17:04
Day one, comprising of gathering hangers and materials to create curtain wall as well as experimenting with the use of colours and opacity by the mean of putting a few hangers on the top of each other which resulted in the structure measuring 1.75 cm.

I am so very proud of thiiiiis! so unbelievably proud. and jealous of everyone who got to work there ( I couldn't because of the paint and i have shit lungs) anyway, I always like to look at the first picture. when we all got to meet. when the room was so empty. and then later pictures with the hangers in a mess, the broken base and the not so sanded pallets, books every where. fast forward to the end of the week, when everything was starting to work out and the room was starting to shape up. oh it's great. so much more that what i had expected. It was so much fun, can't wait for tomorrow when we get to present. I feel like a proud auntie. *not my picture, stole it from someone, sorry*

Day 8 is our exhibition day and the most interesting part of the day is the passport photo taking session. That is really funny!
Posted 21 May 2015 02:06
Working on the template and reflections of this event.
After working for a whole day, I found this office space is really relaxing.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:03
Some really professional photographers and models are found on day 7.They had taken some good photos with use of light and shadow.

Flowers and stationary were the finishing touches to complete the office - which is now open for business.
Posted 20 May 2015 14:10
Final touches on the tables. Adding flowers, pens and notebooks to make the place more lively!
Posted 20 May 2015 14:06
Final touches to blackboards. The different boards lead to the different sections / areas of the room.
Posted 20 May 2015 13:58
To finish the room and give it a homely feel we all brought in different objects such as rugs, stationary, books and more.
Posted 20 May 2015 12:14
The office is now ready for exhibition

Day 6 - adding the final furnishings to the office space.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:48
The final hanger partition. The levels of opacity vary at different viewing angles.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:44
We used recycled plastic bottles as planters which we then suspended on rope from a beam balanced between two ladders. The screen is placed in front of the window so that the plants benefit from the natural light.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:42
We decided that in order to brace the base of the hanger partition, it would be easier to make it out of one solid piece which the metal poles would be welded to. We drew a CAD plan of the curved base design and overlapped the physical hangers to double check the dimensions before it was taken to the workshop for cutting.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:37
The new model was much more stable and we devised a numbering system in order to overlap the hangers as we stacked them whilst also creating an even distribution of colour across the partition.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:34
We attempted to resolve the stability problem by creating a double curve base using six hangers rather than five.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:32
As we built the hanger partition higher it became more and more unstable due to both the weight of the supporting poles and its curved shape, it eventually collapsed.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:30
Experimenting with creating an even distribution of colour across the hanger partition.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:27
Day 2 - adding wooden bases under the poles to test the stability and alternating the stacked hangers to create potential for a more triangulated base structure.
Posted 19 May 2015 17:24
Day 1 - creating a test model for the hanger partition using metal poles to secure the hangers in place.

DAY SIX// occupying the space
Posted 19 May 2015 11:36
DAY FOUR// The hanging chairs were placed on the wall to create shelving and a coat rack in the reception area.
Posted 19 May 2015 11:35
DAY THREE// WEDNESDAY// to create a more precise base we began to create a drawing in AutoCAD. It was here that we could measure the angles and lengths of the hangers.

Won't be able to achieve these without the help and commitment from 1st and 2nd year students. They are absolutely amazing people and have done fantastic job. I hope they enjoy this event as much as I do.
Posted 19 May 2015 00:08
Adding the last touches and creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere by accessorising the space appropriately to the need of the work space. We really enjoyed this project and actually learnt new ways of making ourselves comfortable.
Posted 19 May 2015 00:06
working days after main constructions have taken place: looking after the developing office room. In addition we swapped some of these wall plants in the kitchen with mint leaves for use in tea or edible and self service purposes.
Posted 19 May 2015 00:03
Day 6: Overview of the window seal plant and shelving space, using ladders and wooden pieces.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:59
Day 6: Using more recycled plant plots for near the window seal, allowing natural light reaching the plants and making the work space more lively. Using Ladders and wood pieces to create shelves and a lever to hang these plants from.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:58
Day 5: Just a close up of the hanger partition to show the order of how the hangers were arranged according to it's colour, connection and which way it is facing.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:56
Day 5: Testing out the hanger partition in hopes that it wouldn't fail us after all this effort. The more hangers we added the more the structure gained weight. however the base held the weight very well. Nice and stable.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:53
Day 4: Here is the finished base. Stability and durability was a massive factor for safety regulations therefore we made sure this process was dealt with properly in the workshop.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:49
Day 4: dealing with problems we faced with structural elements of the partition from hangers, by using these metal bases that will be welded into the vertical structural poles.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:35
Day 3: More improvising, experimenting and testing stability and comfortability.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:27
Day 2: More recycled materials, finding inspirations and getting creative.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:24
Day 2: Experimenting, finding alternate recycled materials and testing stability
Posted 18 May 2015 23:18
1st Day: Introduction, meeting everyone and equipment delivery. Meeting held on site, in the office we will be working on to familiarise us with the space we will be constructing around.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:08
the partitions and blackboard are recoated and ready to go. with the chair coming in as well, the office is looking great in shape
Posted 18 May 2015 21:36
everyone brought their bits in, the office is now ready and looking great.
Posted 18 May 2015 21:35
Finished decorating the office with different kinds of stuffs like stationary, books and plants. Everyone brought their own stuffs and now the office is ready for filming.
Posted 18 May 2015 13:35
Trying to borrow the chairs from school again in the morning of day 6 but failed...then helping to paint the wood pieces placed on easel. The blackboard paint is a bit smelly but the effect of paint is nice.
Posted 18 May 2015 13:33
Day6. Tidying up and decorate the space with stationary and books. Get ready for filming on tuesday.

we had a birthday celebration today! happy birthday siti
Posted 16 May 2015 01:09
i grew up loving colours, even though i quite dislike the colours of those hangers. I must say with the right effects, the partition looks pretty decent
Posted 16 May 2015 01:07
a better shot of those plants on the ladder, good fun and good final results.
Posted 16 May 2015 00:56
told you i ended up doing other cool things, putting up some plants with the girls. oh the fun we are having!
Posted 16 May 2015 00:54
metal bases ready. it was very unfortunate that i didn't get the chance to place the hangers. got to do more exciting things though. look out for my next posts
