Posted 22 May 2015 13:31
After difficulty sourcing equipment on the same day. We as a group decided to go forward with the projector concept. However rather than live streaming it, we would loop a film of the art school lobby and cafe with the tilt shift effect applied in the editing stage.
Posted 22 May 2015 13:31
At this point Dylan and I began to work on a back up idea while Nick figured out the logistics of filming with a tilt shift lens and live streaming this footage through a projector adjacent to the site we were filming. After watching ’12 Angry Men’ we decided to try and change the way people viewed their environment. This would have come through a perspective warped photo on an unremarkable brick box in the northern quarter.
Posted 22 May 2015 13:27
Following discussion with other group members these ideas combined with ideas generated by watching ‘The Wings of Desire’. To become something surveillance based. We looked initially at phone boxes to see whether or not we could draw people in through calling them but the ring turned out to be too quiet.
Posted 22 May 2015 13:26
One of the ways in which Gattaca expresses social hierarchies is through scale and level. In these concept diagrams I have looked at how similar effects could be achieved through the change in level on a street and the interaction between objects at different scales.
Posted 22 May 2015 13:23
The modernist architecture in Gattaca serves serves as a backdrop to the ideas of social hierarchy within the film itself. In a world where an outlying eyelash can have potential to ruin a man, the sterile, hard lines of modernism enforce the notion that to exist in this perpetual modernist concept one has to be more than human.

So this is basically our precious model ... burning! Wish we could actually set it on fire instead of spending the whole night on making animations..
Enjoyed every bit of Events - group work, discussions, site visits, filming, editing, cutting, drilling, drawing, photographing, staying awake & having fun. Glad that I got into the group I wanted.
All outputs are ready for review, hopefully we did well. :)

Editing and animating , easier said than done but nonetheless it was enjoyable. With the combine effort of each teammates we manage to divide the tasks equally and did our best.

Continuing with the live stream idea but without the capabilities of live streaming. We decided to record speed up and immitate a tilt shift effect on the film that we would display. This image shows new location and tilt shift effect.

All members of the group (1st & 2nd Years) in the John Rylands library. We spent a lot of time there, filming, discussing, thinking.

Photoshopped to make us look like ghosts since we are shooting a horror trailer ) Excited!

P.S. The trailer will have a hint of comedy... )
Posted 21 May 2015 15:52
The main output is a film. So, after brain-storming the ideas for the film, we decided that it will be a trailer to a fictional horror movie called "Henchmen".

The photo is our group in the process of shooting the footage for the trailer. We had the storyboard and all the equipment ready before we went on sites for shooting.

It was hard work, but very enjoyable )

Posted 21 May 2015 15:48
A number of ideas were developed from our brain-storming group sessions. Some, unfortunately, turned out to be unsuitable for our time limits, budget limits (we have zero budget) or simply criticised by the group.

However, we agreed that we will base our project on the idea of a door hole with various filters to emphasise 'heart' elements of architecture or to create alternative realities of spaces. All inspired from the film we chose - "Howl's Moving Castle".

So, we built a 2m high model which would allow us flexibility in positioning the filter according to the site. It is easily transportable, made out of scrap materials, stable and abstract - exactly what we needed.

So what is it? A sculpture for public? A magic portal? Or just a metal stick on wooden base..?
Posted 21 May 2015 15:37
We decided to base our "Architecture as Actor" project on the animated fantasy film "Howl's Moving Castle". It is an amazing film and we were very inspired by it.

So we started drawing sketches, thinking how we can interpret the film into our project.
