FINAL PRODUCT

On finishing the device we took it outside to test on various columns, trees and walking around. We found it was comfortable to wear and move in and easy to fall asleep, with my back and head being well supported.

The leg devices however did not support my knee joints and this prevented my body from fully relaxing. Therefore the main improvement which could have been made would have been improved leg supports maybe with foam moulded around the front and back of my knee joint.

Overall reaction from the public was positive with many people commenting how professional the product looked and some people even wanted to try it out.

Today we finished the device, adding fabric to soften the appearance, hand sewn straps and clip and finally an elastic finishing band to create a professional appearance.

Today the group split into two with one group working on cutting the back and leg boards and the other creating the personally moulded back and leg support.

After creating a shape based on the human bodies dimensions we finalised the overall shape of the back board and added two knee joint supports.

We ordered materials and planned the construction timetable for next week.

Today we decided on a device to allow sleep whilst standing upright. We created a life size model made to my dimensions and tested it out.

We also considered various colour schemes and shapes of our final piece of 'furniture-clothing'.

Today we ventured into Spinningfields to discover the extent and impact of privately owned space. Once aware of the change in land ownership and sole commercial interests of its inhabitants the area became unwelcoming and hostile.

We talked to a security guard who, when asked 'what are the rules around here' swiftly replied 'what aren't the rules, there is nothing you're allowed to do here!'.

We noticed the instant cleanliness, the narrow demographic of users and the hostility to the space being used in any other way than adhering to the for profit motif.

Touches of 'homeliness' had been attempted with sorry looking 'meet me here' litter bins and the addition of a false area of grass named 'The Lawns', which we were soon told we could not used as this was 'Private Property'.
