A parallel between the past and the present Hulme that will be a part of our film topic.

Our film is based on the music influence that came from Hulme in the period of the crescents and how the locals that lived and partied back then are keeping the music alive today. In order to find more informations and document the "present Hulme", we went to the Junction, the only pub that was built back then and it still stands today. There we found that the music is kept alive through the bands that perform weekly at the jam nights. This is a screenshot from the editing process.

In order to promote the event, each group had to create a poster based on the topic of their film. This was one of our first attempts.

Michael Mayhew is an artist who was part of the group Dogs of Heaven which put the spectacular show for the End of The Crescents. Having lived there, during that period, he gave us a lecture on the history of the crescents. We learnt that at the beginning they were considered an utopian project meant to revolutionize the concept of housing for families, but in the end they became exactly the opposite. At the end of the lecture we had a brainstorming session where we started developing the storyboards for our films, under his superivison.

We also had a tour of the Hulme Hippodrome, a legendary place where bands like The Beatles performed. This used to be the majestic main entrance of the building, now in decay.

In the first days we had the opportunity to visit Hulme with a local graffiti based artist named Kelzo who showed us how the area has changed over time. It was really interesting to see that certain parts of Hulme keep alive the history that goes back to the crescents and the music festivals that took place there. The first picture was taken from where one of the blocks of flats used to be.
