Day 8, part 2. The first day away from the workshop, piecing together and bolting up our beautifully crafted pentagons. Let the stringing begin and the design unfold.

Day 8. Stings strings strings, how you created nightmares with your nots.

Day 7. With the wood sheets arriving we were able to start the production of our DJ booth. Shapes were cut out using the CNC machine and sanded and finished in the workshop. Issues with pieces fitting together and hole sizing arose, but we were able to resolve them in the workshop.

Day 5. Now that we have a final design, its onto the details and construction timetabling to make sure the build runs as smoothly as possible. Four large structural pentagons and purlins acted as the fame, with plastic sheeting as the waterproof cladding. Three inner pentagons included holes to enable us to string the white rope within, creating the wormhole effect.

Day 4, part 2. The final design incorporates uv string which we intend to light up using black lights in order to produce a wormhole like effect. This was inspired by one of our first design proposals, an infinity mirror. By editing the photo I am able to produce a more realistic visual of to how it will be seen on the night.

Day 4. Model making time. As a team of 3 we built a 1:10 model of our final design.

Day 3. Feed back from the panel after our presentations was to combine 3 of the proposals, the use of pentagon shapes from our geodesic dome idea, the shed like structure from another and the use of strings to create parabolic forms from the 3rd.

Day 2. Presentation day to the client. We presented our 8 different proposals to a panel made up of people from the SU, Pangaea committee, 5th year architect students and Jim and Scott From the workshop.

Day 1. Using initial ideas to create and design our first set of proposals. As a group of three we looked at geodesic domes, using models to develop our idea. We experimented with shape and materials, for example looking at combining material and frame and the effect it created once lit up.
