Spanning beams must run underneath the top shelf to prevent bowing due to the load of the heavy equipment resting on top.

Small batons must be attached to the inside of the wedge-shaped structure to provide structural integrity.

Plan showing how the DJ has enough space to freely enter and exit the booth while having ample space to lay out equipment.
Posted 18 May 2015 23:37
We had to slightly revise the design due to space limitations, making the table slightly shorter to allow the DJ to more easily manoeuvre himself in and out of the booth. It also can't be flush with the external frame due to strings on the inside.

Sketchup model showing the table with context, as well as in axonometric.
Posted 14 May 2015 22:11
The first years in the group were tasked with the design of the DJ's table, and we ended up with an asymmetrical wedge to fit into the corner of the pentagonal frame while leaving the DJ room to enter and exit easily.

The proposal meeting was with multiple members of Manchester students union and the Pangea organisation team. We pitched our concepts to the staff and answered there questions regarding the design.

Exploring potential geometries
Posted 13 May 2015 12:46
The initial model developed into this refined frame. It looked at using string instead of the timber. The string could be illuminated to create a vanishing point perspective.
Posted 13 May 2015 12:44
My initial proposal for the Pangea DJ booth. It looked at covering the DJ with a series of parabolic curves. In this case it was timber.

The design the clients chose was a parabolic string arch, which will be developed further this week to translate the initial design into a feasible build structure.

Day two - Students developed their proposals in the morning before presenting to the Student Union and Kantorovich workshop staff in the afternoon.
