Added on lights in the light tube, the model looked surpricingly nice.

07_ Upon completion of the model and the creation of a storyboard for the filmed output, the footage was filmed and edited
Posted 22 May 2015 15:07
06_ The final of the five points was the roof terrace/roof gardens
Posted 22 May 2015 15:03
05_ Following this was the minimalist, open facade that also incorporated the ribbon window, another of the 5 elements of design. Clearly defining that these are two separate elements would need to be necessary for the filmed output
Posted 22 May 2015 15:01
04_ Next was to demonstrate the open floor plan that could be constructed because of the structural frame created from the pilotis

Posted 22 May 2015 14:51
03_ Opting to take a more literal approach to have a clearly defined story, the first stage of the model was the 'pilotis' of the building
Posted 22 May 2015 14:50
final video showing the walkthrough in the space
Posted 22 May 2015 14:50
02_ The first stage of model making was to make a marionette puppet of the Modular Man, to play the protagonist in the final filmed output and to provide some context and story line to the footage
Posted 22 May 2015 14:45
01_ The first day was spent discussing how best to approach the required output, in particular focusing on the scale of the model for the final film footage and how we could create something representative of Corbusier's 5 stages of design
Posted 22 May 2015 14:42
Our performance would be a video showing our hands assembling the model in a dark background. We taped black paper on the walls of a room, creating the background. We filmed the assembly of model twice on different angle to give two different vision.
Posted 22 May 2015 14:33
Replaced the floors and columns with MDF boards, our model looked a lot more stable and rigid. We spray painted it white to avoid too many colours overwhelming other features in the plan.

Posted 22 May 2015 13:45
A rather nice camera definitely allowed us to achieve the really detailed and contrasting shots we were looking for.
Posted 22 May 2015 13:41
Getting the right lighting was important to explore our concept of implementing the shadows into our design. We took over the 4th floor of the Benzie building to achieve this.
Posted 22 May 2015 13:39
We began with a few concept sketches, exploring how the aesthetics of our design relate to the work of Le Corbusier. We opted for a tiered system, joining the plan with ramps to create a unified form, attempting to adopt Le Corbusier's 5 principles of architecture.

Day 5, finished all frabication today.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:34
Day 06
We arranged our box and started to film it for the final output. We did a stop motion video with the pieces 'performing.' Above are stills from our video.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:27
Day 05
We continued to paint all the pieces and arranged the alternating 'floors' with spare pieces from our previous box that didn't fit together.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:25
Day 04
We painted random sections of the box.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:21
Day 03
After cutting the box correctly, we experimented with different wood stains to see what effect they would create. We left the pieces bare as we wanted to paint them in bright colours, reminiscent of Le Cobusier's painting style. We also noted that when the box was opened out, it looked like a mini exhibition of his paintings.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:14
Day 02
We photoshopped Le Cobusier's painting overlapping each other on top of a cube net and laser cut it. We decided to take shapes out so the cube had 'windows' and we were able to see into the cube. Unfortunately the cube was cut wrong so we had to redo it. We also changed the pattern of the middle section.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:07
Day 01
We were put into groups and had to brainstorm ideas on how to utilise Le Corbusier's paintings within our final output for a film. We decided to use his paintings as facades whilst using an overall geometrical shape to create a contrast as his paintings had quite curvy shapes.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:02
[Series of sketch models]

Rough vs smooth, edgy vs curvy, dark vs light, transparent vs opaque, narrow vs wide.
Posted 22 May 2015 09:28
Day 01
Our first official meeting with Le Corbusier revolved around rectangular tables where we discussed on how an interpretation of him was to be performed.
Paintings do look like floor plan. Hence the usage of Le Corbusier’s purism works to extrude walls in forming interesting circulation pattern.

Day 02
Work began; painting made and materials tested until we decided to be divided into smaller groups. The constitution of the paintings and the extrusion system remained.

Day 03
In a group of four, sketch models were made, diagrams formed and digital spaces raised. Here we focused on the ‘contrasting’ image of Le Corbusier, thus the portrayal of contrasting elements in a building.

Day 04/05
Building of the model resumed. It was to be incorporated into the final performance in the form of a video.

Day 06
The workshop infatuation; redoing floors and columns out of wood instead, as foam board has proven to be too thin and dangerously incapable of bearing too much of plaster weight.

Day 07
Video filming and editing.

Day 07: Today was filming day. We filmed us assembling the building and then we added people moving around the spaces using stop motion.
Posted 22 May 2015 02:22
Day 06: Today we went to the workshop to build the frame of the building. We used wood for the columns and floor slabs and some perspex for glass panes on the 1st floor
Posted 22 May 2015 02:17
Events Completed! - This project has been really fun and allowed our group to stretch creativity greater than ever before! We are all really happy with the final video and model along with the other groups models, together we have all really enjoyed the events project.

[The fascinating texture of Plaster of Paris]

Very, very fascinating. Although it was a time-consuming and sticky process.
Posted 22 May 2015 01:31
On the last day we were filming a video of our building "performing". To show that our video is a stop motion so no hands are shown in the film and building "talks" for itself
Posted 21 May 2015 22:59
Three floors together make up a structure/building. Art turns into architecture
Posted 21 May 2015 22:57
We started to assemble our building. Every floor has its colour wall best suited for the painting. The top of the extrusions have a colour full bits cut out and stuck on top of them, so when you look above the floor you can only see a flat painting instead of a structure/floor/building.
Posted 21 May 2015 22:56
We decided that we are having load bearing and decorative walls. The curved walls were made out of plastic and curved by the heat gun. Other straight walls were down out of colour full acrylic
Posted 21 May 2015 22:53
We decided to laser cut the extrusions. We chose mdf for our base. We stick painting on the base and spray painted the columns and other pieces.
Posted 21 May 2015 22:52
we managed to create a very exciting and colorful space

Posted 21 May 2015 13:54
The next day we started to build our walls out of foam board with plaster mounted on. The product was satisfying. We decided to put plaster on the all of the walls except for the staircase and light tube which punches through the whole building vertically.

Day 4, all the parts have been lazer cut. All the acrylic walls have been bent and will be glued together tomorrow.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:16
Being split into smaller groups at the end of the last session, we began to develop idea for the video as our group performance. The idea of our group was to create a building model representing Le Corbusier, emphasizing his use of contrast in various aspects. Sticking with the theme, we made models to test out materials and capability to present various forms of contrast.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:23
Day 04: Today we started working on the final model. We cut pieces of foam board and covered it with plaster to create a rough texture to contrast with the smooth surface of the floor.
Posted 21 May 2015 00:13
Day 03: Today we presented our idea, after researching the life of Le Corbusier we decided find a word that describes it and this word is "Contrast". Our idea is to create a building using his paintings as plans and his architectural principles as a basis to show contrast in both materials and circulation. We also want our performance with the model to have some aspects of contrast in it, to fit our narrative. Later we tested materials and did a small sketch model to see how everything fits together.

Day 6
Defining spaces at different levels by lifting some of the predefined shapes from the ground and offsetting them at equal height variation.
Posted 20 May 2015 21:35
Day 5
Arrangement and composition in progress. We decided that the cut out shapes would be part of a landscape which we will paint as well in order to blend in with the colours we used to paint the interior of our model ( structure), all of which is based on Le Corbusier art work as seen in the image on the laptop.

Posted 20 May 2015 21:33
Day 5

Posted 20 May 2015 21:31
Day 5
Laser cutting a second and final model with scoring on the inside.
Posted 20 May 2015 21:31
We then had to film the stop motion that we are going to make in order to make our model "perform"
Posted 20 May 2015 15:28
This is how we turned a painting into a floor
Posted 20 May 2015 15:27
This is an example of how the extrusions work as well as another of corbusier's rule of a roof garden
Posted 20 May 2015 15:26
We then devised a way to slide the facade onto the front of our building (which is made out of the paintings)
