Tutorials in adobe after effects.

Since the final outputs of our projects is to make films for an exhibition, we were given tutorials in after effects.

Here is a more specific sketch to show the close community in West Gorton. I attempted to show the large amount of interaction between neighbourhood and families outside their houses, representing the bonded and reliable relationship of habitants. Although people might have had lower social issues, the cleanliness condition was high and the crime rate was low.

Site analysis, sketching and diagramming. First day we had to explore the site and investigate the surroundings. The site is quite enclosed and it is exposed to the sun only from the east side. Also we had to diagram the circulation and the hierarchy in order to understand the site.

Discussing final presentation and design of the outdoor space. At the end we had several design options for the client. We thought that it is more sensible if we provide variety of options. However, the main scheme was creating a structure with water feature around it. In terms of landscape we all agreed with the planting, paths and water puddles.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:46
The solution to the hinge problem is to use the exterior fabric as the hinge
Posted 22 May 2015 10:46
Patiently waiting for wind
Posted 22 May 2015 10:44
The rest of the sections have been completed and pushed together. The only problem now is to make the fist section able to fold both up and down as the hinges do not allow this movement.

High in the sky. Reflecting on Wittgenstein's work, his philosophy, redesigning of the hut and what we learned from him. Paying our respects by flying the kite in his honour.

This is a collage to show the housing style of West Gorton and community state in the 70s. Most buildings were housing and local churches at the time. I combined different streets views together to show the variety of architecture. As the image shows, majority of the buildings were traditional brick work that was not very decorative, but crime and pollution were low due to the contented community.

Posted 22 May 2015 10:40
We added wadding to the frame and filled it with scrunched up newspaper pages to make the seat more comfortable.

Orange is the theme in our team. Brought from axo to the kite
Posted 22 May 2015 10:35
elysium was the other film that i used to theme my scenario from. The use of imbalance between the rich and the poor was the main plot behind the film, with the poor being in constant servelance from robotic and drone technologies.

The earth has become a borron place due to the lack of resources, so the civilians of earth are in conflict with the government to regain the balance of power and rights.

Day 06
We arranged our box and started to film it for the final output. We did a stop motion video with the pieces 'performing.' Above are stills from our video.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:27
i was interested in the terminator salvation due to the apocalyptic movie plot where the earth has been war torn by the advancement in robotic technologies. The robots in the movie use futuristic flying vehicles based on drone technologies. However the human race still use ordinary vehicles which have rusted away to give them a rugged look.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:27
Day 05
We continued to paint all the pieces and arranged the alternating 'floors' with spare pieces from our previous box that didn't fit together.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:25
Here we looked at the change in site through time and collated data from the central library to enrich our understanding of the site

The beginning of model making. Spray painting laser cut pieces to rebuild/remodel Wittgenstein's hut
Posted 22 May 2015 10:14
Day 03
After cutting the box correctly, we experimented with different wood stains to see what effect they would create. We left the pieces bare as we wanted to paint them in bright colours, reminiscent of Le Cobusier's painting style. We also noted that when the box was opened out, it looked like a mini exhibition of his paintings.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:14
Site model under construction. The 1:100 model was made from laser cut mount board, of the drawing pack issued at the start of the event.

First group meeting, in Everyman Theatre, Liverpool.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:08
Our presentation went incredibly well with Jane yesterday, they all were very enthusiastic about the design. It's very exciting that our design could actually be built. Brilliant two weeks meeting lots of new people and learning a new set of skills.

Looking through the altar, onto the church tower.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:08
Day 02
We photoshopped Le Cobusier's painting overlapping each other on top of a cube net and laser cut it. We decided to take shapes out so the cube had 'windows' and we were able to see into the cube. Unfortunately the cube was cut wrong so we had to redo it. We also changed the pattern of the middle section.

Site visit to St. Luke's Church.
Posted 22 May 2015 10:04
Day 01
We were put into groups and had to brainstorm ideas on how to utilise Le Corbusier's paintings within our final output for a film. We decided to use his paintings as facades whilst using an overall geometrical shape to create a contrast as his paintings had quite curvy shapes.

Photograph/observation
This demonstrates that a lot of the site is shielded by buildings, protecting it from the elements. There is less wind and sunlight that can access the site making it a more peaceful environment, suited to the project in hand.

Day 01
Our first official meeting with Le Corbusier revolved around rectangular tables where we discussed on how an interpretation of him was to be performed.
Paintings do look like floor plan. Hence the usage of Le Corbusier’s purism works to extrude walls in forming interesting circulation pattern.

Day 02
Work began; painting made and materials tested until we decided to be divided into smaller groups. The constitution of the paintings and the extrusion system remained.

Day 03
In a group of four, sketch models were made, diagrams formed and digital spaces raised. Here we focused on the ‘contrasting’ image of Le Corbusier, thus the portrayal of contrasting elements in a building.

Day 04/05
Building of the model resumed. It was to be incorporated into the final performance in the form of a video.

Day 06
The workshop infatuation; redoing floors and columns out of wood instead, as foam board has proven to be too thin and dangerously incapable of bearing too much of plaster weight.

Day 07
Video filming and editing.

On Thrusday ( 21.05) We met for last time before the presentations to set up our instalation on the site ( under the stairs of Benzie Building on the Ground floor). Once we isntalled it we were pleased to see that the instalation was working and the people were actually interacting with it.
Posted 22 May 2015 09:14
Observation
The space isn't being utilise to its full potential. People aren't ingaging or integrating with the space, but rather walking around it following the pathways.

Day 1/ Experimental piece using wire mesh
Posted 22 May 2015 09:11
On Wednesday ( 20.05) we met again to sort out the final design of our instalation, what exactly we are going to project, and to set it up one last time as well as experiment with what other materials we could use as surfaces for projecting. We also came up with the idea of having two extra cubes hanging from above to enhance our scheme.

Fabrics were chosen for their translucency as we wanted viewers to easily contrast the different elements of our installation, looking through one ‘sound wave’ to another. We suspended 68 pieces of nylon wire from the top of our frame, before stitching each piece individually through the chiffon.
They were tied in a manner that created fabric waves, depicted the sound generated by the site.
Posted 22 May 2015 08:59
So this is basically our precious model ... burning! Wish we could actually set it on fire instead of spending the whole night on making animations..
Enjoyed every bit of Events - group work, discussions, site visits, filming, editing, cutting, drilling, drawing, photographing, staying awake & having fun. Glad that I got into the group I wanted.
All outputs are ready for review, hopefully we did well. :)
