Day 5-Initial sketches on the working of the car for movement. To decrease the energy needed to move the car; I looked at electromagnetism for the car to float and be able to travel without road surface friction. Only resistance is air resistance. Also looking into the car being in different exchanging parts but allow for an engine slot and a passenger and load slots.

4. A 1:50 model was made along with a 1:20 partial model of the room. We needed both scales to show the scheme as the hair curler used are at 1:20, however doing the entire space at 1:20 would be too big. The noodles and pods are then made at 1:20 while the outside space is at 1:50.

3. We formed groups and discussed and combined our ideas. We talked about the issues with the design brought up at the previous review session with the client and worked through them. Then we discussed how to best present the idea through models.

2. This is a sketch of the initial idea. Soft furniture is used in the play area and also forms the set for children’s theatre. They deck outside is extended with an outdoor green area.
Posted 22 May 2015 16:19
Day 6- I concentrated on some technologies to make the car work. Nano technology is one the main technologies that I am using. The Nano bugs have multiple purposes and can easily adapt to any needs. Other technologies I looked into are capacitors, hydraulic engines, suspension systems, computers and more.

For the second week we were looking into one of Wittegnstein's past times which was the making and flying of kites. We responded to this by interpreting our idea of the 'invisible hut' into a transparant kite. the idea was to accentuate the funtion of the kite (only the frame would be visible against the sky).

1. On the first day we met with the client who informed us of what was needed in the space. We also measured the room to draw the section and plan.

Day 4-We researched into the technology used in science fiction movies, existing researched technology and existing technology. We tried to use a mixture of these technology to created a futuristic transport. My research took me to nano technology, electromagnetism, 3d and 4d entertainment, computer and console gaming, self drive system, GPS and the nuclear reactor.

LAST BLOG POST! A group photo to round the week off.. (with apologies to Paul - stop eating your shirt - and Dishun)

We've already said it, but we were very impressed with the high quality of the work you all produced over the two weeks, especially given the tight timeframe, and the attention you showed to the brief in producing the final designs.

To back this up, Louise from Special Collections said to us after the presentations:

[This is] '...exactly what we want to do but never in our wildest dreams would we have thought of some of this - it is fantastic.'

They'll be keeping your designs on hand when they come to consider how to show special collections in the new Mabel Tylecote building, so a great effort all round!

It's been a pleasure working with you all over the fortnight, and all the best with your courses over the next few years..

We'll be around the sixth floor if you need anything!

Paulina, Jenny, Tim and Kamal

This is the site analysis of our chosen site, Clayton. We edited the photos in accordance to how we would like to show the effects of the CPO on the site. The white drawings shows the rows of houses that used to be there but now, demolished.

In order to demonstrate the two-way mirror efect of the walls we designed two interchangable wall pieces. One was made from mirrored perspex which represented the extorior view of the model, preventing external observers from viewing the inside and helping the model to blend with it's surrounds. The second piece was transparant perspex that was used to demonstrate the interior view form inside the hut.

Day seven: Presentation preparation. We presented our sheet to our event leaders in turn they gave us feedback Running through each group's work and their respective presentation sheet that we have asked for, in order to best convey their final work before they present it to Special Collections tomorrow.
Posted 22 May 2015 16:03
Day 3-We presented our initial ideas and we had a discussion about our scenarios and our initial thoughts on the technology within our future transports.

Day seven: Attachment grid. After a tutorial with our leaders we decided to produce the conceptual grid that would support our hanging structure in order to show MMU staff the following day. We felt this would help being our concept to fruition. Using welding techniques we produced a structurally stable grid that our display would hang from.

Reflection: Although initially there was a lack of enthusiasm for the project (because the event had been changed last minute), we all became more enthused once we started exploring and developing ideas. Being involved in a live project was a great opportunity, giving us a first-hand insight into how things work in the "real world". The prospect of our proposals really being built made the whole process much more exciting and motivated us to produce the best designs possible in the little time we had. I look forward to hearing back from Saskia about which ideas she chooses to take forward and eventually see them resolved and finaly constructed in the centre.

Upon assembling it on site, we decided to take it back to the university building without disassembling it to save on time and labour, after having spent the most part of the day fixing it together. With 15 wheels, as a group we were able to take it back without too much difficulty.

Day 8

The day was spent editing the footage collected. Hours of film had been collected from the past few days which had to be sifted through to generate a concise flow. Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects were used.
Posted 22 May 2015 15:31
Upon deciding on a recycled and sheltered seating area, we collected all the materials and began testing out different layouts without making any permanent decisions.
Posted 22 May 2015 15:29
Day six: Informal presentation. Our group presented our work to 5th years in order for them to give us feedback on security, and health and safety concerns when presenting the corset from a hanging structure. Producing solutions such as LED lighting to prevent damage from natural sun light and ventilation to maintain humidity levels.

Day 7

Tuesday was a full day of filming, interviews were the main item to produce. a total of 6 interviews were made which helped to give us material t generate a story and argument. There were some challenges with getting good quality audio, and consistent audio.
Posted 22 May 2015 15:26
We visited the MMU Birley Campus to make an initial analysis of the site. We found vast open green spaces with little occupation, a large university building facing onto them and student accommodation surrounding the area.
Posted 22 May 2015 15:26
Thursday: we presented our final proposals as a group to Saskia using a digital presentation and models (as they proved successful in last weeks presentations). It was good to present to someone outside of architecture - the feedback we received shone a light on other aspects that we and others hadn't considered.

Aysha, Shueb and Justyna present their ceiling-hung concept to show the Ashuach stool.
Posted 22 May 2015 15:26
On our last day we went to Whitworth Park and tested our kites. It was a great way to finish our collaboration with year 1 and 5 for this year and celebrate the success of our project. I would say I started and finished the year on a good note and the work for events made me even more enthusiastic for next year and my future projects.

Day 6

We spent day filming cut scenes around Hulme. It wasn't a great day so a lot of the film portrayed Hulme as a dead place with very little life.
Posted 22 May 2015 15:19
The final model was the most important element of the presentation as it allowed Saskia to visualise our proposals. We made the model at 1:20

Day five: Investigation of light. We blacked out the room in order to cast shadows from the skeletons. By implementing lights around the inside of the ribcage and focusing lights onto the corsets produced interesting shadows around the room that we decided wanted to be a crucial feature in our display.

In order to respond to this brief we chose to explore Wittgenstein's language tractus, specifically his theories on 'language games'. The scheme we began with closely examined the idea of 'form over function' that words are represented by their function and not by visuals. From this we began to explore the idea of removing the hut from its context completely by using two-way glass.
