Having already come up with our final concept, the process of sketching and creating models reminded me of Thomas Heatherwick's 'B of the Bang' which stood as the tallest sculpture in the UK until 2008. The explosive yet elegant aesthetic of the art mirrored what we are aiming for with our intervention.

Day 2 // Colour Experimentation. We then put the ink directly into the hot wax to see if this would better colour the wax.
Posted 21 May 2015 12:15
The second day started off with everyone presenting their ideas and concepts for commemorating the 70th anniversary of the bombing of St. Luke's Church. Following that, we were dividing into 4 groups depending on our ideas. Thus, started our(Group 04) journey through the Fragments Of The Past.
Posted 21 May 2015 12:08
Day 2 // Colour Experimentation. Our first thought was to ink the water to see if any of the colour would mix in with the hot wax.
Posted 21 May 2015 12:05
Day 2 // Experimentation. We liked the organic structures that were formed when we immersed the wax into water and this was the idea we wanted to experiment with further. We then decided to experiment by using colour.

Day 1// Understanding the Material. We looked at moulding the wax buy pouring it onto a wire mould. We also moulded the wax by pouring into water and explored how the temeperature of the water affects how the wax behaves. The photograph shows some of our experimentations.
Posted 21 May 2015 11:59
Made CAD plan to build a metal pole in metal workshop!
Posted 21 May 2015 11:59
We continued to develop our final concept by creating further sketch models and digital models of the intervention, which helped us understand where we wanted to attatch the string, and how we were going to assemble the final model. The string had to be threaded through the different columns in a specific order in order to avoid the string getting tangled up and changing course.

1:1 Test model
The test model was very helpful in developing our design, from it we were able to see where most of the force would be exerted on the back boards as well as considering how best to wear it and what connections we were going to use. another thing we noticed from the test model is that we would need some form of support at the knees so when the wearer fell asleep their knees would not buckle preventing them from falling.

day 04
we had a workshop session with the NOVARS on how to use some applications to edit sound.
Posted 21 May 2015 11:34
On our first meeting we were introduced to the project and in groups of four we had to start a research on one aspect of Ludwig Wittgenstein's life. My group had to study the questions of Logic, how they have changed throughout the philosopher's life and the way it's principles can be applied to Wittgenstein's Hut Extension.
Posted 21 May 2015 11:31
Day 5 - After a quick review with Harald and Tom, we spent Friday making any necessary changes to our models and adding any finishes like windows and doors. It was then presented and photographed.
Posted 21 May 2015 11:26
Day 02.
After we were given sites to choose from, we chose St. Peter's square, we went to site and took some pictures and did some recording.
Posted 21 May 2015 11:26
Days 3 and 4 - Time spent building our physical models. Laser cut pieces have been sprayed, ready for use in our reconstructions. New material has also been added in places, such as reflective perspex, to effectively produce our design.

Testing shadows.
Having decided to hang the skeleton we tested out different lighting options in our blacked out room to see which ones created the more dramatic shadows. It was also important for us to see which lighting situations showed off the corset in the clearest way.
Posted 21 May 2015 11:01
We tied the frame together using string
Posted 21 May 2015 10:48
On Tuesday we cut out the frame for our kite
Posted 21 May 2015 10:46
1:1 scale model
Producing a scale model of the room we are working with enabled us to see the different way in which we could use the space within the room. By adding lights at different angles to the model we could see which angles produced the best shadows on our skeletons and showed off the corsets in the best ways.
Posted 21 May 2015 10:44
07 | After constructing frame for the installation, we began to sew threads through textiles. They visually represent qualities of sound that we recorded in four sites around Manchester.

Day 7
19-05-2015
On Tuesday we finished doodling on the boxes, for my box I chose to use different Romanian patterns that are usually used on clothing.
Posted 21 May 2015 10:32
Day 6
18-05-2015
This week we moved indoor in SpacePortx where we started doodling on the boxes to create the final exhibition piece, along with sketching we also had some creative activities such as SketchJam which implied a group of people would start sketching a word and than exchange the sheets of paper and someone else would continue with another word what the first one started. The results were fantastic and very funny.
Posted 21 May 2015 10:29
Day 5
16-05-2015
On Saturday we took part in the Chorlton Art Festival where we went to sketch and people also got to join us in sketching. After a few hours of sketching we started building our exhibition from the boxes we decorated on Friday and exhibited all of our drawings from that day.
Posted 21 May 2015 10:21
Day 4
15-05-2015
On Friday we started preparing the exhibition pieces (boxes) for Saturday's Chorlton Arts Festival.
We decided on the arrangement of the boxes as well as the colour we should paint them and proceeded to paint

Day 3
13-05-2015
Interview with David Steeden from Manchester Urban Sketchers
Profession
Industrial Valuer
Favourite technique
Black ink and watercolours
For how long have you been sketching?
“A long, long time. I could say over 50 years"
Why did you start sketching?
“When you sketch, you get to understand a building, you start researching and finding out more about its history, you get more from it than just by taking a photograph"
Why did you join the Manchester urban sketchers?
"Because their purpose was sketching outside, and that’s what attracts me. For some people it might be the fear to sketch alone and other people watching them, but I just feel that sketching in a group is more productive"
Tips on sketching:
“The line does not have to be perfectly straight, its charm stands in the imperfection, and to be honest it makes the final output look more professional"

Day 3- After presenting our ideas to UOM Student Union and workshop staff, we started to finalise the design for our DJ booth with second year and fifth year students.
Posted 21 May 2015 09:16
Yesterday our group continued working on the kite. After constructing the structure we sew the fabric and attached the thread. We tested the kite and despite the unfriendly environment for flying it, we drew some conclusions on which features could be improved in its design.

Day8// Exhibition Build
Posted 21 May 2015 03:04
Day8// It is exhibition day. We showed our sketchbooks on those doodled boxes and hanged up some sketches from 5th year seniors with clips and strings. And also a local illustrator Phillip Chin shared some drawing techniques with us which can benefit on our future architecture study.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:29
Doodles on the box for exhibtion.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:18
Day 4, all the parts have been lazer cut. All the acrylic walls have been bent and will be glued together tomorrow.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:16
Day7// We continued doodling on our boxes. Then we had another activity that we need to design a poster to represent our event. Our group was like using orange paint and our own fingers to create one.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:16
Sketchjam! In this activity we got to experience a very different approach in generating ideas. We were split into groups of 5/6 and one of us had to say a word. We then drew what would represent the word best and passed the paper to the next person and the process was repeated, but under one condition: we had to connect the drawings. It's an effective way in making us think and because we each think differently there are a myriad of possibilities in conjuring up ideas.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:09
Day 3
We present our concept for the Z -arts gallery space, which is a creative learning space for kids. Most precedents we have looked are about movable furniture and interior playing and learning space. I was searching for examples on movable furniture until I stumbled upon Pentominoes, which I proposed a movable structure consist of the pieces.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:08
Day 8 is our exhibition day and the most interesting part of the day is the passport photo taking session. That is really funny!
Posted 21 May 2015 02:06
Working on the template and reflections of this event.
After working for a whole day, I found this office space is really relaxing.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:03
Day6// We prepared for our sketch fest exhibition in SpaceportX which located in city centre. We doodled those boxes for the exhibition. We also did a group activity that drawing something can fit together to make an image making sense.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:02
Some really professional photographers and models are found on day 7.They had taken some good photos with use of light and shadow.
Posted 21 May 2015 02:01
Day5// We went Cholton for the art festival with some urban sketchers. Quite a lot people came to this festival and they enjoyed the live music and food. After sketching, we tried to set up an exhibition, hanging our sketches with some clips.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:49
Day 2
We produced some drawings and diagrams of the site to prepare for our task. We would develop our concept and look for some precedent for the next day.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:43
Day 1
Site visit in Z arts Hulme and meeting with Saskia to get the brief. We get to tour around and measure the interior which we would work on later.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:33
It was time to test out the projection mapping.Using different sequence of rotating optical illusion videos we test out our installation. The result was quite good.we was really satisfied as a team.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:32
Day4// After 3 days sketching parade, we went back to Chatham to think about our exhibition. We designed to use 25 cardboard boxes which have been painted with white and orange colors to be the"display desk". And we were allocated into 4 groups. Different groups have different tasks. My group is doing a booklet of our event journey.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:30
After experiment with the projector in a white wall and collect all together. We decide to went to our site and start set up everything to test our installation .The site was quite bright so we bought black fabric ,which placed on the site of the staircase to block the light. This decision made because of the projector mapping.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:23
Being split into smaller groups at the end of the last session, we began to develop idea for the video as our group performance. The idea of our group was to create a building model representing Le Corbusier, emphasizing his use of contrast in various aspects. Sticking with the theme, we made models to test out materials and capability to present various forms of contrast.
Posted 21 May 2015 01:23
A groupmate trying his best to destroy the photos. This is to be used in the installation. Bleaching, burning, sanding. Just in the hope of destroying the perfectly edited photos.
